Commercial animation is a rapidly growing and vibrant industry, encompassing a broad range of rewarding and fascinating creative job opportunities. Our strong emphasis on creative practice will help you to develop your skills in drawing and design, along with the imaginative development and innovation of ideas expressed sequentially. These skills, together with the professional practice aspects of the course, will ensure that you have the confidence and expertise to succeed in the industry, whether as a producer, technician, designer or manager. You’ll also develop the transferable and cognitive skills necessary for lifelong personal and professional development. Throughout the course, there are opportunities for you to take part in national and international competitions and film festivals. Our course is delivered by a large team of experienced animation practitioners, staff and industry visitors, and you’ll work in dedicated specialist animation studios with facilities for blue screen, rostrum animation, CGI, drawing, stop-frame, film, photography, set building, sound and video. Successful animators need to be flexible and able to adapt to changing cultures and new initiatives, and our course seeks to reflect this fluidity. You’ll rapidly develop your own practice in animation, and will be encouraged to work on shared initiatives. Based at our Harrow Campus – home to the Westminster School of Arts and the Westminster School of Media and Communications – you’ll work alongside students from film, photography, music, fashion and journalism, in a unique creative hothouse.

The objective of the degree is to train professionals capable of identifying, understanding and developing the problems and processes of art, through artistic creation and its analysis. Currently, the student of Fine Arts is a profile capable of facing any creative project and for this reason the UFV will train you in a very practical way and in small classes so that you can learn about the latest trends in the different sectors. The Fine Arts workshops will be your second home since this degree is almost entirely practical, so the university has specific facilities for its proper development.

This studio-centered course offers you the opportunity to explore the disciplines of painting, sculpture, performance, installation, printmaking, and lens-based and digital media. The Fine Art course is characterized by a profound synergy between academic and technical teaching and learning. You'll work towards an independent, critical, and reflective practice, supported through tutorials, workshops, lectures, study trips, and, in the first year, weekly contact with your Academic Advisor.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in visual arts is a professional degree that equips students with expertise in their area of focus that will better prepare them for graduate school and employment opportunities as an artist within creative industries. The areas of focus in the B.F.A. in Visual Arts are: Ceramics & Sculpture; Digital Arts; Drawing & Painting; Graphic Design; Photography; and Printmaking and Paper Arts. (Please note: the area of focus does not appear in the degree title, and all graduates of the program receive a B.F.A. in Visual Arts.)
