The aim of the B.Ed. in Primary Education is to train new teachers to a high standard so that they may in turn teach their pupils to a high standard and positively contribute to their school and communities. The aim is further to train new teachers in such large numbers that they make a significant impact on meeting the targets of access and quality of Primary Education outlined in MIP-1 (National Planning Commission, 2021b) and NESIP (Government of Malawi, 2020).

This programme aims to equip students with various competencies to enable them to teach at this crucial level of education, equip students with research skills that intend to develop new ideas, initiatives and pedagogies and attain more knowledge with greater understanding, and provide students with knowledge, abilities and pedagogical techniques and attitudes that will allow them to support the holistic development of children by designing and organizing playful learning environments.

It is a degree aimed at guaranteeing pedagogical, psychological, linguistic, sociological, scientific, technological and artistic training for future Primary Education teachers, a degree with a long tradition and interest both in our environment and in the State as a whole.

Offered by the School of Education (SOE) under different programmes to meet the current and emerging educational and developmental goals of the Pacific island nations. The school offers programmes in the following disciplines: Early Childhood Education, Special and Inclusive Education, Primary and Secondary Education, Library/Information Studies, Non-Formal Education, Educational Evaluation, Educational Leadership and Change and Tertiary Teaching.

Our BSc Education is designed for students who have an interest in education and are looking for the opportunity to pursue this interest in a broad social science context. Your study will be informed by our research in education and the latest developments in policy and practice, encompassing aspects of culture and identity, childhood and youth, gender and ethnicity, and social justice and inclusion.

Certified graduates of Early Childhood Education who are eligible to teach Pre-kindergarten through 4th grade -and- Special Education Classrooms from Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

The General Studies Education major introduces students to the following disciplines: education, literacy, and special education. Students select courses for broad-based study in the overarching area of education. The major allows for flexibility in course selection and degree design.

Our BA Honours Education Studies degree goes beyond just teaching and learning, preparing you for a range of careers in the education sector and beyond. Through its initial teacher training programme the School of Education (SoE) at UKZN strives to prepare teachers who are caring, accountable and critically reflective about the who, what, how and why of teaching in a diversity of contexts. To this end the SoE offers an internationally recognised initial teacher education programmes (Bachelor of Education degrees) that qualifies you to teach in any school in South Africa. Increasingly the qualification is attracting students from neighbouring countries.

Pitt-Johnstown offers four-year degree programs leading to a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in seven secondary education areas of concentration. The secondary education major prepares students to teach 7th - 12th grades in their selected area(s) of study.  

The Pitt-Johnstown Early Childhood Education Program prepares our candidates to become certified graduates of Early Childhood Education who are eligible to teach in Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade.

Education Studies at Queen’s explores the multi-disciplinary field of education by critically examining key topics and themes and analysing research-driven insights to ask questions that matter. From concepts and issues to policy and practice, students will examine the fascinating landscape of local and global education through the core underpinning disciplines of psychology, sociology, philosophy, history, and politics.

The Secondary Education program requires 27 credits of Education coursework in professional foundations and studies and 13 credits during internship. Students apply for admission to the program after successfully completing nine credits of Education coursework in professional foundations. During the course of the studies, candidates may be asked to reapply to the program if their GPA falls below 3.0.
