In our Fashion & Costume Design program, you can look forward to a career full of glamour and style. Design principles are central to the course. You will create garments through applied design processes – from idea generation to mood boards and storyboards that address design briefs and trend forecasts, textile selection, and practical garment construction.

The costume design emphasis combines a rigorous sewing program with industry-specific design courses, preparing students to work in theater and film. On the Costume Construction pathway of BA (Hons) Theatre Practice, you will develop skills in costume interpretation and creation, learn pattern drafting, women’s and men’s costume making, hat making and accessories.

Costume performance is a newly emerging university discipline in China, and it is also a discipline unique to my country. With the rapid development of the clothing industry and the continuous improvement of cultural connotations in the display of clothing, the model industry has also been given new criteria for judgment. "Models" can no longer be just "props" for displaying costumes, but should be a group of professional and skilled talents with academic qualifications, culture, and accomplishment, and the requirements for admission to the costume performance profession are getting higher and higher.

The professional activities of the graduate are the creation of a costume-object of creative activity of an artist-stylist, the ability to solve issues of artistic design of textile and light industry products, good orientation in matters of fashion and style, composition, marketing research in the fashion industry, the use of innovative and traditional methods.

From film to fashion shows, TV to theatre, all productions depend on great costumes to bring stories to life and capture the imagination of the audience. Develop your skills in costume making, as well as showing the process, creativity and innovation behind your designs.
