The BFA in Music Scoring & Composition is designed for those students who wish to focus on music composition and scoring for film, television, games, and other visual media. Balancing musicianship training with production skills to reflect a changing music industry, students will learn music theory, composition, harmony, orchestration, and arranging, focusing on creating emotion through music in synchronization with visual media.

The Songwriting programs at Musicians Institute are designed to create versatile songwriters who will have the skills to steadily work in today’s modern music industry. Graduates of the BM program will be able to write and produce their own music while exploring other areas of the industry.

Electroacoustic Composition invites you to explore music at the crossroads of art and technology. You’ll create with both acoustic instruments and electronics, showcase your work at concerts and workshops, and build the skills for exciting careers in music production, sound design, and media arts.

The Bachelor of Music in Composition for Visual Media program’s curriculum focuses on contemporary arranging, scoring, orchestration, music theory, ear training, and music history, all skills that will make you a diverse and multifaceted composer ready to work on the most exciting projects in the music business. Composition studies, harmony and voice leading, music analysis, and instrumentation are at the core of the program. Our Jazz Programme ‘New York Comes to Groningen’, offered by Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen, is unique in the world for two reasons: 1. Alongside the strong Groningen staff, top New York artists travel to Groningen to teach in our programme on a rotating schedule. Every week of the year, you’ll be able to learn from another New York artist, allowing you to develop yourself into a professional jazz artist. 2. All students (bachelor and master) work with all of the NY-artists, irrespective of the student’s instrument. Bachelor’s courses include theory, ear training, composing, arranging and a wide variety of workshops. In addition, there are ongoing weekly lessons from a world-class Dutch faculty.
