Studying Art History and Visual Studies is more than just looking at pretty paintings. It is a fascinating exploration of human expression, spirituality, and meaning throughout the ages.As a part of UFV’s Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programs, you can opt to take Art History and Visual Studies courses as electives or as part of a minor or extended minor.

The Bachelor of Arts in Art offers students the opportunity to study art and liberal arts. The degree consists of a minimum of 36 credit hours in art and art history.

In this program, you’ll choose from a vast array of electives to broaden your experience and understanding of art. Our BA program will help cultivate the critical thinking and practical skills needed for you to make a career in art. And, with our reimagined general education curriculum, you’ll be ready to succeed in an increasingly complex, diverse, and global world. Plus, with fewer credits (120) and studio requirements than our BFA programs, it’s especially ideal if you want to take on a double major.

More than one path is open to those who wish to major in Art and pursue careers in museums, galleries, or arts organizations and/or pursue further study at the graduate level. Students choose between concentrations in Art History and in Visual Arts. The latter group takes a wide variety of visual arts courses, including ceramics, painting, printmaking, sculpture, graphic design, and book arts. Faculty members foster critical and creative thinking, leading to clear communication and problem-solving. Students may pursue careers as visual artists or may consider a variety of occupations, including art therapy, arts administration, exhibition design, or art criticism.
