The bachelor program in Graphic Design and Visual Communication imparts theoretical, technological, and creative skills to create print and media works. Students are introduced to typography, logo design, corporate design, poster design, illustration, photography, film, motion design, editorial design, graphic design in public space, and web and app design.

You will gain a deep understanding of visual culture, media, and communication, introducing you to the evolution of visual forms and their impact on society. You will also be able to pair theory with practical applications, allowing you to start honing your creative skills.

The Graphic Designer plays a key role in all projects that involve visual communication. From publishing to packaging, corporate identity to exhibits, signage to advertising. Graphic Design is a multidisciplinary profession that combines various elements of communication (signs, fonts, colours and images) to define forms of expression that must always be original and contemporary.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Communication Design prepares students for the graphic design and illustration professions. Students develop technical understanding and design skills in the organization of imagery and typography to communicate information in two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. Students produce work for print, motion, video, screen displays, and interactive experiences, as well as package design, exhibition design, and environmental wayfinding.

This course introduces foundational visual development and visual storytelling skills for both illustrators and animators. Projects and exercises will walk students through processes to develop successful concepts, sequence images to tell clear stories, design believable visual worlds, and create illustrations with professional techniques.

Computer Studio II will build upon skills and techniques developed in Computer Studio 1. Through demonstrations and exploration of tools available in Photoshop, students will develop a thorough understanding of photo manipulation software and some of its uses for the visual communicator. In addition to Photoshop, students will learn basic skills associated with Fireworks and Flash.

Explore 2D digital animation tool sets, while practicing how animation principles, timing, and sound design can create believable, relatable, innovative, and evocative short films and spots. Students will be exposed to digital 2D animation processes that can be applied to motion graphics, character animation, and special effects. Students will continue applying ideation and visualization techniques learned in Visual Development & Storytelling to create engaging and clear sequential narratives.

This course is an introduction to the use of the computer and essential software as tools for the visual communicator. In Computer Studio I, students become acquainted with the Macintosh computing platform by engaging in an intensive and thorough exploration of the software/hardware commonly used by designers and artists. Through demonstrations and experimentation, students will learn the fundamentals of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop (as well as other design/utility applications) and their roll in print media and digital pre-press.
