This program is designed for undergraduate students at the University of South Carolina interested in a career as an early childhood teacher, serving children birth through age 8. Students who complete the degree and licensure requirements and have a positive recommendation will be recommended for teacher certification for prekindergarten through grade 3.

Study African American art, culture, history and society under the guidance of a faculty that works in numerous topics. Take courses focusing on elements of African, Caribbean, Black-Latino and Black-Asian American cultures. Explore your own artistic vision and develop your own style through a program that emphasizes creativity and invention. Create projects alongside many programs across the university, such as music, theatre, dance, and women’s and gender studies.

Students who obtain the degree in Religion with a concentration in Religious Studies can use their degree in the same way other liberal arts degree programs are used. Students with a liberal arts degree not only develop skills employers are looking in the areas of communication, initiative and motivation, analytical ability and teamwork, but students can also pursue most professional and graduate programs throughout the country.

The English program introduces students to humanistic studies and develops oral and written communication skills. Students develop an understanding of and appreciation for literature by studying the history and structure of language. Faculty also provide instruction in professional writing.

The music department offers courses leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree in music with concentrations in instrumental (strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion) piano, voice. In addition, the music department offers a minor in music in these areas. Music students become versed in music history, theory, and performance.

The social science department offers courses drawn from anthropology, geography, history, political science, social work, and sociology to both majors and non-majors.
