The BA in History offers graduates vocational flexibility. While many associate historians with writers, scholars or discoverers of the past, the BA in History can lead to a myriad of career paths. Most commonly, a BA in History graduate earns a living as a college professor, high school teacher, a historical administrator, and/or a librarian. However other options include positions in the State Department (overseas service), a Washington-based institute “Think Tank”, Law-related fields, Park Service (Department of the Interior), the Tourism and Travel industry, Archive work, or law enforcement. At Eastern, a BA in History provides a broad knowledge of history with special skills in critical analysis, research, and writing. Coupling strength in European and American history, our students develop a Christian interpretation of the past and the present.

Eastern University’s BA in Theatre allows students to integrate their Christian faith into their art form while preparing them for careers in theatre. Students learn through engaging academic curriculum and real-world performance production. The program approaches the study of dance in a comprehensive manner, balancing the academic curriculum with performance production. The development of satisfactory technical performance based on sound biomechanical principles is supported by engagement with historical, socio-cultural and aesthetic theory, exploration of creative potential, instruction in pedagogical practice and understanding of anatomical principles. The course work and community environment engage the individual on physical, intellectual, social, and emotional levels anchored in Christian spirituality--shaping a dance professional who is well-rounded and grounded.

A BA in Health Sciences allows students to develop a solid scientific foundation for the study of the human body, focusing on the structure and function of the body in conditions of wellness and disease. In our human history and in every culture, the desire to create with language has guided artists who in turn make their creations available to others. At Eastern University, we believe this desire reflects our being formed in our Creator’s image. We also believe that creative writing can be learned, practiced, and honed as an academic discipline in community, while paradoxically generated in solitude. Because of that paradox there is opportunity for the student to grow as a writer and as a person.

The study of philosophy includes rich discussions regarding ethics, justice, art, literature, culture, and theology. Students go on to pursue a wide variety of career paths including law, education, business, science, and government. The philosophy major at Eastern University has a backbone of studies in the history of philosophy, with a sequence of courses in Ancient, Medieval, Modern and Continental philosophy, as well as a course in Epistemology and Metaphysics that focuses on recent Anglo-American philosophy. Another cluster of courses clusters around inquiry into the good and the beautiful: Faith and Philosophy, Christian Sexual Ethics, Ethics and Justice, and Philosophy and Literature. All philosophy majors are required to take one course in logic, which is a fundamental tool in all inquiry. Finally, the philosophy major culminates in the writing of a Senior Thesis in conjunction with one of the senior seminars, either The Christian Mind or Truth and Meaning: Hermeneutics.

The Global Studies and Service program prepares students for effective cross-cultural service at home and abroad. You will have training that can be used for work in a variety of settings. Our graduates have launched intentional inner-city communities, founded recovery programs for women caught in terrorism in Sri Lanka, taught English in Thailand, China, and Korea, served as international social workers in Uganda, translated the Bible via sign language in Lithuania, and received graduate degrees at Princeton Theological Seminary and Oxford University.
