Binghamton offers a BA in theatre, providing students with the opportunity to take courses in areas such as: acting, directing, dance, and design/technical theatre. In addition, students can also take courses in musical theater, performance theory, history or criticism.

Political science is one of Binghamton University's most popular majors. Students take courses in American politics, political theory, comparative politics and international relations. The core courses address various topics in American or comparative political systems and institutions, international conflict and civil war, repression and foreign policy

The cinema major at Binghamton works on honing a student’s analytical and production skills. The primary focus of this program is how technical skills are used in the creation of meaningful artworks. Upper-level classes such as Filmmaking and Digital Video-making help students craft their artistic voices and explore experimental modalities, while also gaining technical proficiency.

The Latin American and Caribbean Area Studies Program (LACAS) offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Latin America, the Caribbean, and people of Latin American and Caribbean descent in the United States. LACAS majors examine culture and economic and social problems throughout the Americas. By choosing this central, students not only learn more about a range of cultures and societies but also about global interconnectedness.

A BA in Arabic studies is offered through the Department of Middle Eastern and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (MEAMS). Arabic studies focuses on Arabic language and literature as a gateway to the culture and civilization of the Arabic-speaking world.

The psychology major is one of Binghamton's most popular majors and provides students with a solid experimental background for further postgraduate study and training in all areas of psychology and related fields. Many graduates go on to earn a master's degree or a Ph.D. and become researchers or clinical psychologists.

A Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy teaches students to examine the world using logic and critical reasoning skills. Philosophy asks fundamental questions about the world we live in: about the meaning of human life; the nature, purpose and limit of human knowledge; the character and contents of our moral experiences; and the justness of our institutions.

The French major offers two areas of study: French and Francophone Studies, French Language and Linguistics. As the student progresses within the major, the specialization of either French or Francophone studies or linguistics will begin through strategic course selections. Students will typically also choose to double major within a different discipline to build a holistic degree plan.

The Italian major provides students the opportunity to study the rich language, vast history, and intriguing culture of the beautiful country of Italy. The mastery of spoken and written Italian is developed through the study of an evolving artistic tradition: Medieval literature and culture, Renaissance philosophy, modern Italian poetry and prose, contemporary cinema, and new media.

The Latin program is designed to provide thorough and rigorous training in ancient Latin. Majors may leverage the training this major provides toward advancement in a variety of fields, including teaching. (Majors of ours have gained admission to Master of Arts in Teaching [MAT] programs in Latin.)

As the second largest spoken language in the United States and in the world, Spanish plays a key role in superior education. The Spanish major provides students with a strong foundation in oral and written communication, as well as solid training in textual and cultural analysis.

Linguistics is an interdisciplinary practice that seeks to analyze communicative behaviors using science and cultural information. A major in linguistics can be individualized according to your interests. Class work emphasizes oral presentation and communication skills as well as a strong foundation in logic, analysis and understanding arguments.

The Department of English, General Literature, and Rhetoric provides students the opportunity to study literature and language in their many manifestations. In addition to an English major, the department offers coursework in globalization and culture. Literature courses provide undergraduates with a foundation in literary history as well as an opportunity to explore a variety of genres while fostering critical reading and research skills.

The Sociology Department aims to understand the social changes taking place throughout the world and relate them to the developments in the contemporary United States.

The Geography Department empowers students to address several contemporary problems such as physical resource development, racial/ethnic patterns, urban decay, business geography, and pollution. The curriculum helps students better understand how natural and human environments become organized geographically by institutional decisions and the consequences of human actions.
