The program in Media and Performing Arts engages students in practical and theoretical explorations of live performance forms, from the adaptation and staging of texts to the exploration of rituals and festivals, the study of performance in everyday life, acting (on and off camera), cinema and media studies, film and media production, spoken word, and other areas in performing and media arts.

For over thirty years, Carson-Newman has been teaching students about films and filmmaking. An interdisciplinary Film major now blends coursework in film production and writing with the academic study of motion pictures in a Christian context.
