BA Philosophy investigates these profound issues and addresses today’s great global questions. As the world’s oldest academic discipline, Philosophy has developed an impressive range of concepts and techniques for addressing complicated problems.

Through your studies, you will develop an understanding of the historical and cultural bases of the study of the media and cultural industries and their roles in modern society. While BA Media and Communications in particular is a product of our extensive and growing communications environment, the course also benefits from our experience teaching and researching both journalism and media studies from national and international perspectives.

Our BA English Literature and Creative Writing programme allows you to study all periods of literature in English, from the Anglo-Saxon period to the twenty-first century, together with training in Creative Writing. We cover all genres, from contemporary and historical fiction to poetry, drama, film and music.

The overall aim of our BA Media, Journalism and Culture course is to equip you to become a well-informed citizen in a media-saturated society. Our courses study the many facets of journalism, media, culture and communications, and consider in an era of globalisation and dynamic social change their impact on society, politics and popular culture.

On this joint honours degree, you will split your studies equally between the two complementary disciplines. You will benefit from a generous choice of optional modules on historical and political themes which are central to an understanding of public life in the modern world. The modules in BA Modern History and Politics History develop your knowledge and critical understanding of the political, social, economic, and cultural structures of past societies.

As such, students may obtain substantial exemptions from these bodies’ professional examinations. The course will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to all areas of accounting and prepares you for further study at the final stages of professional accounting qualifications. ​
