Translation is a major actor on the world stage. It is also one of the most fundamental of human activities, allowing us to interact with one another within and across cultures. On our 3-year BA Translation programme, you’ll develop the ability to translate and mediate between languages, cultures and communities.

The Linguistics/Translation concentration trains and prepares students to understand, experience, and apply language concepts. As an applied linguistic activity, the program qualifies students to further their studies in translation, and to use the subject matter in other areas, such as sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, speech therapy, and computational linguistics.

A globalised world has warranted a growing trend in the need for translators. The Translation BA degree will engage you with all aspects of technical translation as well as some aspects of literary translation, focussing on practical work and the professional skills needed for a successful career in translation.

The program is designed to provide theoretical and practical training for students to become professional translators, and to introduce them to the requirements of specialized translation.

Students will be awarded the following award upon successful completion of the graduation requirements: BA (Hons) in Linguistics and Translation. The option of Secondary Major in AI and Data Analysis is available to the students of BA (Hons) in Linguistics and Translation. Admission to the Secondary Major is on a competitive basis and subject to different credit requirements for graduation.
