The biblical studies major combines a broad background in philosophy, Christian theology, and ministry with a solid foundation in the Bible. Graduates are furnished with a biblical basis for Christian ministry and evangelism and are prepared for graduate study in the Bible and Christian theology.

The Judaic studies program offers students an interdisciplinary perspective on three millennia of Jewish culture: Jewish social, religious, and political history; Jewish literature — biblical, modern, and postmodern; Jewish thought; and modern Israel. The curriculum draws from both the humanities and the social sciences and covers a wide array of topics including modern Hebrew and Yiddish. Judaic studies majors can construct their areas of specialization within the major.

Religion begins with a desire to understand the purpose of existence; theologies argue that certain reasons for existence are unique and true. At Loras, majors in Religious Studies and Theology majors expand their worldviews and reflect on the complexities of religions and spirituality in the modern world.

The Christian Studies major at Logsdon School of Theology equips women and men called to join God’s work in the world through a ministry vocation or who are interested in Biblical or theological studies.

Trevecca’s Bachelor of Arts in religious studies is a unique, double-major program designed for students who want to major in an area outside of religion but who believe that a classical education in Bible, biblical languages, theology, church history, and philosophy will supplement their future career or graduate studies goals.

The Religious Studies Program at Siena Heights University challenges students to engage in the academic study of religion, construct an ethical worldview informed by faith, strengthen their understanding of God, and hone tools and skills for lifelong spiritual development.

Upon graduation with a Theology and Youth Ministry major from Thiel College, a student will demonstrate: familiarity with the biblical writings of the Jewish and Christian traditions and with scholarly approaches to interpreting these and other religious texts; the ability to interpret the nature of religious experience, Christian and otherwise, with a level of sophistication appropriate to an undergraduate scholar of religion; knowledge of the key persons, works, and movements from the history of Christianity; and a mature understanding of the interrelatedness of religion and culture.

You’ll be challenged and prepared to carry out ministry in innovative, creative, and transformative ways and can tailor the program to match your unique calling by choosing from the following minors: pastoral ministry, youth ministry, children’s ministry, missions, worship ministry, and compassionate ministry.

Whether you pursue a career in government, the entertainment industry, or community service, you cannot understand people’s values and motivations without religious literacy. As a religious studies major, you will explore the many dimensions of religion—its spiritual, historical, cultural, and social aspects. You will understand your own religious traditions, and learn from the traditions of others. The department offers cross-cultural perspectives on religion. Mason, with its diverse student body, is an ideal environment in which to undertake such study. Likewise, the Washington, DC area offers rich opportunities for encounters with a variety of religious institutions and faith communities.

In the Department of Religion, faculty and students study the religious traditions of the world and explore the nature and function of religion in human experience. Through multidisciplinary methods engaging sacred texts, theology, ritual, belief, culture, history, and more, we investigate the ways religion enriches and complicates the lives of people as a major source of people's values, ideals, and practices. Students acquire skills in thinking and reading, speaking and writing, and learn how to approach and understand cultures radically different from their own.

A Thiel College religion major will gain a vast understanding of Christianity and all other world religions. The Thiel liberal arts curriculum prepares our religion majors for a wide range of professions, not just a career in ordained ministry. Students who choose to concentrate in philosophy will study ancient and contemporary philosophers as they engage in rigorous debate, ask the big questions and sharpen their critical thinking skills. Students who choose to concentrate in religion are introduced to the academic study of the world's religions. They dive into the sacred texts, rituals, histories and ethics of different cultures while learning to communicate effectively with those who think differently from themselves. The interdisciplinary philosophy and interdisciplinary religion concentrations allow students to craft their own majors by counting up to nine credits from outside of the department toward the major.
