The Department offers a rigorous history honors program, with five modules and a regular seminar that brings in historians to present their work from all over South Africa and from overseas. All students who register for a BA Honours in History are required to complete core courses and write an honors research essay based on original research. Full-time students complete the program in one year, while those registered part-time have two years to complete the degree.

Full-time students register for five modules. Part-time students register for all the modules except for the specialization modules and the research essay in the first year. In the second year, part-time students register for the specialization modules and the research essay. All elective modules are not necessarily offered every year.

The Bachelor of Arts Honors (Visual Art) prepares students for research-based postgraduate study and entry into the diverse careers in the visual industries, by enabling students to produce creative solutions to complex problems within a specialist area of studio practice; exhibit this work professionally and conduct and report their research under supervision. This is a one-year full-time or two years part-time honors program with both a studio practice stream and a purely theoretical stream, when it is made available.

The purpose of the BA in Public Management and Governance is to provide qualifying students with substantive, theoretical, and intellectual knowledge, cognitive and research skills such as critical reasoning, data mining, and processing, problem-solving, interpretation, analytical and evaluative skills; communication skills and a normative basis in line with internationally accepted dimensions of “good governance”.

The purpose of the BA Hons in Art Therapy is to develop students’ creative, imaginative, and critical knowledge, skills, and academic research capabilities within the domains of the art therapy discourse, visual arts, and psychosocial and therapeutic industries. The Honours program will equip students with an intermediate knowledge of Art Therapy theories, and research methodologies, as they relate to eventual practice as an Art Therapist on completion of a Master's in Art Therapy, as well as an ability to think competently, safely, and ethically in a range of observed clinical settings.

The purpose of the Bachelor of Arts Honours in Interior Design prepares students for research-based postgraduate study and entry into a design career by enabling students to produce creative solutions to complex problems within a specialist area of design and to conduct and report on research under supervision.

In this course, we work with the Greek language, literature, artifacts, philosophy, history, and religion. Not only do students develop their own analytical skills by participating in this course; but they also understand the ways in which we as human beings give meaning to our existence through the use of symbols and complexes of symbols that come to us from ancient times.

The purpose of the Bachelor of Arts Honors in Design (Fashion) prepares students for research-based postgraduate study and entry into a design career by enabling students to produce creative solutions to complex problems within a specialist area of design and to conduct and report on research under supervision.

The course aims to supply a fairly detailed study of the contribution of our classical heritage to Western civilization.

Strategic Communication Honours facilitate both theoretical and applied competence in strategic communication. Specialized knowledge of strategic communication theory facilitates the ability to critically review, consolidate and extend strategic communication theory to create appropriate responses and to resolve abstract contextual strategic communication problems.
