The Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Law (PPL) is a coordinated programme of study culminating in the award of a BA (Philosophy, Politics and Law) degree. It offers a structured, yet flexible, programme with a focus on Philosophy and either Law or Politics or both.

The AFDA Bachelor of Arts in Live Performance is renowned for providing students with a rigorous, well-rounded, comprehensive education in live performance. The program is designed to equip students with the necessary conceptual, practical, and contextual skills to perform on stage, screen, TV, or within the music industry. What defines the program and sets it apart, is its project-led experiential approach to learning, allowing graduates to thrive in the creative economy of the 21st century.

The Department offers a rigorous history honors program, with five modules and a regular seminar that brings in historians to present their work from all over South Africa and from overseas. All students who register for a BA Honours in History are required to complete core courses and write an honors research essay based on original research. Full-time students complete the program in one year, while those registered part-time have two years to complete the degree.

This course comprises the study of literary theory and the literature in English from Britain, America, the Indian subcontinent, and Africa. Periods covered range from the Middle Ages until the present day.

The purpose of a BA (Law) degree is to allow the student to acquire knowledge of the South African legal system, private law, constitutional law and customary law.

BA Honours Politics, with a compulsory module in Research Methodology and mini-research report, with choices ranging from South African Politics; Gender; Area Studies; Contemporary Issues in International Relations; International Organisations; Political Risk Analysis; Theories and Concepts in Politics and International Relations; Peace and Security; South African Politics and African Political Economy.

The AFDA Postgraduate school is focused on developing innovative research, origination, production, and distribution of entertainment concepts for both local and international markets. Over the last fifteen years, the AFDA Postgraduate School has produced a large network of graduates who have made a significant contribution to the South African entertainment industry. A large percentage of commercials, feature films, television series, music, and retail content is produced by AFDA Honours graduates.

This is an interdisciplinary BA Hons in African Studies consisting of five modules of which two are compulsory.

The purpose of the BA Hons in Tourism Development is to develop the ability of the student to question, analyze and interpret tourism and hospitality development issues within a global context. The purpose is achieved through the delivery of tuition and a research-based project where the student shows evidence of research and the ability to reflect on tourism and hospitality development issues.

The purpose of the BA (Visual Art) Degree is to develop students' creative, imaginative and critical knowledge, skills, and academic research capabilities to practice as artists within the domains of the visual-cultural industries, and/or to engage in postgraduate study in visual art.

The BA Honours (Urban Studies) program introduces students to critical perspectives on urbanization and city development. Students become familiar with debates on the politics of cities and institutions, informality, consumption, and ways in which people participate in and reshape city life.

The purpose of the BA in Public Management and Governance is to provide qualifying students with substantive, theoretical, and intellectual knowledge, cognitive and research skills such as critical reasoning, data mining, and processing, problem-solving, interpretation, analytical and evaluative skills; communication skills and a normative basis in line with internationally accepted dimensions of “good governance”.
