The Department offers a rigorous history honors program, with five modules and a regular seminar that brings in historians to present their work from all over South Africa and from overseas. All students who register for a BA Honours in History are required to complete core courses and write an honors research essay based on original research. Full-time students complete the program in one year, while those registered part-time have two years to complete the degree.

The purpose of a BA (Law) degree is to allow the student to acquire knowledge of the South African legal system, private law, constitutional law and customary law.

BA Honours Politics, with a compulsory module in Research Methodology and mini-research report, with choices ranging from South African Politics; Gender; Area Studies; Contemporary Issues in International Relations; International Organisations; Political Risk Analysis; Theories and Concepts in Politics and International Relations; Peace and Security; South African Politics and African Political Economy.

The AFDA Postgraduate school is focused on developing innovative research, origination, production, and distribution of entertainment concepts for both local and international markets. Over the last fifteen years, the AFDA Postgraduate School has produced a large network of graduates who have made a significant contribution to the South African entertainment industry. A large percentage of commercials, feature films, television series, music, and retail content is produced by AFDA Honours graduates.

This is an interdisciplinary BA Hons in African Studies consisting of five modules of which two are compulsory.

The purpose of the BA Fashion Design program is to develop fashion designers, problem finders, and problem-solvers that have the competence to work independently as entrepreneurial fashion designers.

The modules in the BA Honours (Industrial Sociology) program offer students an understanding of the changing nature of global workplaces, industries, worker struggles, and work dynamics.

Our BA Honours in French promotes the in-depth study of Francophone and French Literature. We specialize in the study of specific genres like autobiography and the experimental novel, and of specific periods, like the twentieth-century French theatre.

The modules in the BA Honours (Sociology) program offer students an understanding of contemporary societal debates and concerns. Students explore social identities and societal structures, global and local linkages, as well as social change and strategies for social intervention.

The purpose of the BA Hons in Tourism Development is to develop the ability of the student to question, analyze and interpret tourism and hospitality development issues within a global context. The purpose is achieved through the delivery of tuition and a research-based project where the student shows evidence of research and the ability to reflect on tourism and hospitality development issues.

The purpose of the BA (Visual Art) Degree is to develop students' creative, imaginative and critical knowledge, skills, and academic research capabilities to practice as artists within the domains of the visual-cultural industries, and/or to engage in postgraduate study in visual art.

The BA Honours (Urban Studies) program introduces students to critical perspectives on urbanization and city development. Students become familiar with debates on the politics of cities and institutions, informality, consumption, and ways in which people participate in and reshape city life.

The purpose of the BA in Public Management and Governance is to provide qualifying students with substantive, theoretical, and intellectual knowledge, cognitive and research skills such as critical reasoning, data mining, and processing, problem-solving, interpretation, analytical and evaluative skills; communication skills and a normative basis in line with internationally accepted dimensions of “good governance”.

Industrial designers use drawings, models, and computer programmes to improve the aesthetics, ergonomics, and functionality of a broad range of products, from once-off furniture items to mass-produced goods such as gaming consoles, kitchen appliances, and mobile phones. The Department of Industrial Design offers a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design. The Department also offers a BA Honours in Industrial Design Degree for those who have already successfully completed a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design.

The purpose of this programme is to explore a wide range of forms of human communication from a variety of perspectives that connect the local and the global and are rooted in African contexts and experiences. Our curriculum develops an innovative participation studies approach that addresses the specific communicative, cultural and social contexts in which we operate. As an inherently interdisciplinary and flexible programme, the BA Hons in Communication Studies intersects a multiplicity of fields and areas in the humanities and social sciences and offers an opportunity to explore their complementarity and interconnectedness.
