Anthropology is the comparative study of humanity that focuses on people in all places throughout history.

What motivates so many people to migrate from their own societies to others? Why are some cultures so different from each other? Our course combines sociological and anthropological approaches to the study of society, exploring how humans understand their social worlds in different ways.

The Undergraduate Anthropology Program at Brandon University encompasses three of the discipline’s four traditional major sub-fields: Socio-Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology, and Biological Anthropology.

As a Linfield anthropology major, you will develop many skills, including interviewing, techniques such as ‘deep hanging out,’ and archaeological methods to research people in our own and other cultures, past as well as the present.

To obtain the BA in Anthropology degree and prepare for a chosen field, students must complete the major requirements listed below, round out their education by learning important skills and values through Loyola's Core Curriculum and develop their own special interests by taking general electives.

This degree introduces students to the process of independent qualitative research. Students learn how to put together their research questions and proposals, understand how to construct a literature review as the basis for good, theoretically-informed research, train in how to conduct ethnographic research, and how to write up that research into an essay form.

Anthropologists seek to understand humanity, how we came to be the way we are, in which ways we differ, and how we are all the same. We do this by studying our evolution, the societies we developed throughout our history, and the diversity of cultural patterns we have developed across the world.
