Public health is an interdisciplinary major that provides students with an understanding of the connections between public health and diverse disciplines, such as social sciences, biological sciences, and business.

Mercyhurst's multidisciplinary Public Health program focuses on disease and injury prevention by promoting healthy lifestyles through the implementation of educational programs, development of policies, research, and administration of health services. With only 16% of colleges offering undergraduate public health programs, Mercyhurst Public Health graduates have excellent prospects of finding work in the field, entering one of the more than 50 graduate schools of public health or continuing on to medical school or a law school offering a health law program.

Public health often makes headlines in response to epidemics or pandemics. However, public health is more than just than just disease management. It is the art and science of preventing disease as well as protecting and improving the health of individuals and their communities. Public health includes promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing and responding to infectious diseases.

If you are interested in lifestyle choices and behaviors related to the individual and group health of humans, you'll learn about the latest theories, concepts, and evidence-based practices to encourage people to make healthy choices as a student in this program.

The Bachelor of Arts in Race, Ethnicity, and Health provides students with the knowledge and skills required to understand and address racial and ethnic health inequities in the U.S. The program critically examines the root causes of health inequities and ways to alleviate these inequities to promote social and health justice among communities of color.

The Department of Health and Exercise Science focuses on the fundamental principles of health and the effects physical activity has on the human body. The degrees are designed to help students competitively enter the job market and/or pursue graduate students in a health and exercise science-related field.

Cottey College's women, gender, and sexuality studies program examines what it means to be a woman. Students explore questions such as: Who decides who or what a woman is? What does it mean to be a woman today? and What is feminism? They then apply these ideas to macro-level perspectives, including how gender structures our social, political, and economic world and how people's experiences of gender have varied across time, space, and culture.
