The Political Science Department creates responsibly engaged citizens who learn how to produce positive change and healthy communities throughout their state and nation. We do this through the study of government and policy using creative, collaborative, and scientific skills.

Cultivating future leaders, Students enjoy experiential learning in many of their courses, including Congressional simulations, mock trials, and creative problem-solving in foreign policy. Students examine politics at every level: local, state, national, international and global.

Political Science is the systematic study of power at local, national, and global levels. In our BA in Political Science program, you’ll engage in a living discipline that extends far beyond classroom walls. Through exposure to political theories and concepts, and practical experiences and internships, including interaction with real policymakers and primary sources of international news and information, you’ll develop the critical insights, skills, and contacts needed for success.

The BA in Political Science equips you with critical insight into political systems, public policy and media influence—while building strong analytical, communication and research skills. Over 3 years, you’ll explore national and international politics, democratic processes & public administration.

The curriculum of the BA in Political Science has traditional strengths in the behavioral and historical study of American, European, and international institutional politics, as well as global public policy, human rights, peace and conflict studies, and global political theory.

The political science program at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown is a four-year degree program leading to the degree Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. It provides the opportunity for students to concentrate on political science as an object of interest and study, and to prepare for any of a fairly large number of interesting careers.

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration, in partnership with the College of Education, offers an exciting pathway to earning a North Carolina Teaching License in Social Studies. This program combines the coursework of a major in political science with hands-on education training and up to 21 additional hours in other social science fields.
