The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers majors leading to a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts Degree. The B.A. Degree also has a Biochemistry Option. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is designed primarily for students who plan to enter graduate programs in chemistry or other closely related sciences. Students graduating with this degree will be certified to the Society and will receive a certificate from the ACS. The Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry fulfills the need of those students who are pursuing pre-medical or pre-dental programs as well as those who plan to enter fields such as business, environmental or patent law, where a background in chemistry can be of great utility.

The B.A. in Natural Sciences serves as a waiver program for the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Science. The degree is also a suitable choice for students with a general interest in physics and interest in pursuing a career in law, medicine, dentistry, optometry, and other areas for which the breadth of scientific coverage of this degree is advantageous.

Many of the programs you will pursue recommend or require a class in physics. All students in the below listed programs must successfully complete the below science and math coursework without earning three (3) D and/or F grades. Students unable to successfully complete these courses within these prescribed parameters will be required to select a different major and will not be permitted to take any additional courses offered by the below Departments/Divisions. In addition, registration for all courses offered by these departments will be dependent on students meeting the prescribed parameters regardless of their major.
