8 Online Philosophy BA Degree Programs

BA (Honours) in Philosophy and Psychological Studies seek to answer profound questions about ourselves and our place in the social and physical universe. In this degree, you'll investigate a range of philosophical debates about ethics, justice, scientific knowledge, religion, art, and the self. You'll cover the core approaches in social, cognitive and developmental psychology, and some applied aspects of professional practice.

This BA (Honours) in Arts and Humanities (Philosophy) degree gives you the freedom to combine the study of different subject areas in the arts and humanities. You'll develop a specialism in philosophy, exploring the ideas of philosophers and learning to tackle big questions for yourself. You can combine this with a second specialism or choose to develop broader interests in art history, classical studies, creative writing, English language, English literature, history, modern languages, music, and religious studies.

This is one of several specialist routes available in our BA (Honours) in Social Sciences (Philosophy) degree. You'll study core modules in interdisciplinary social science and sociology, giving you a firm grounding in ideas central to the social sciences. This will be combined with discovering more about the ideas held by classic and contemporary philosophers and learning to think about the big questions of philosophy for yourself.

In this BA (Honours) in Religion, Philosophy and Ethics qualification, you’ll explore human systems of thought and practice, both ‘secular’ and ‘religious’, in ways which allow you to engage with wide-ranging and often controversial issues affecting different cultures and societies across Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe.

BA (Honours) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics are central to understanding how modern societies are organised and governed. By studying them together you'll gain a combination of skills that’s in high demand across the private, public and non-profit sectors. All three disciplines are presented in up-to-date form, covering alternative as well as ‘mainstream’ approaches and firmly rooted in the real world.

Philosophy teaches you to think in new ways about big questions: “What does it mean to live a good life?” “Can we change our relationship with the natural world?” “How might technology and artificial intelligence transform what it means to be human?” Philosophy majors have some of the highest scores on standardized entry tests for law school, medical school, business school, and graduate school. They also have some of the highest mid-career salaries among non-STEM majors.

The Liberal Studies program represents CUNY’s first online BA in the liberal arts and sciences. Unlike most majors, which emphasize the mastery of a single discipline, Liberal Studies affirms the intellectual and professional value of learning to think across conventional disciplinary lines.

The Philosophy and Religion degree gives students grounding in the traditional issues, content, and methods of these disciplines while emphasizing a broad global perspective. At the introductory level students take courses in disciplinary foundations and methods, as well as general surveys in the disciplines. The major then requires the study of philosophy and religion within specific cultural contexts with opportunities for students to engage with Western, Islamic, African and Asian systems of thought and value.
