The Geography Department empowers students to address several contemporary problems such as physical resource development, racial/ethnic patterns, urban decay, business geography, and pollution. The curriculum helps students better understand how natural and human environments become organized geographically by institutional decisions and the consequences of human actions.

Geography is a discipline that integrates the environmental and social sciences. Geography studies location, places, regions, human-environment interactions, and movement. Its tools include cartography and geographic information systems (GIS). On the job, Geography graduates address social, physical, and environmental problems from the global to the local scale.

The BA in Biology provides a sound liberal arts education with substantial experience in quantitative and analytical thought, along with preparation for related professions. The program provides the strong background necessary not only for graduate study in the life sciences, but also enables students to develop careers in a wide variety of disciplines, including teaching, environmental management, microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, genetics, wildlife management, fisheries biology, and marine science.

West Liberty University offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education that prepares teacher candidates for content specific certification from grades 5-Adult in English, Math, General Science, Biology, and Social Studies. BA in mathematics education (5-adult) contains required mini-residency field components within the required 30 hours minimum.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers majors leading to a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts Degree. The B.A. Degree also has a Biochemistry Option. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is designed primarily for students who plan to enter graduate programs in chemistry or other closely related sciences. Students graduating with this degree will be certified to the Society and will receive a certificate from the ACS. The Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry fulfills the need of those students who are pursuing pre-medical or pre-dental programs as well as those who plan to enter fields such as business, environmental or patent law, where a background in chemistry can be of great utility.

The Geology, BA program aims to provide students with both high-quality conceptual knowledge and hands-on training in geology in preparation for careers within the earth-science field or for graduate studies in geology.

Earth Science is an all-embracing term for the multiple sciences related to the planet Earth. The B.A. degree in Geology with a major in Earth Science is designed to integrate all the Earth sciences in a systems approach to understanding the Earth. This includes incorporating and integrating subjects such as oceanography, meteorology and astronomy. The emphasis is on the preparation of individuals to work in a wide range of professional public sector service careers where preparation in Earth science and communication of science to non-scientific audiences is a requirement or an asset. Learn essential geospatial skills to help explain our world by analyzing patterns to solve problems. Geography B.A. integrates concepts from physical and social sciences as well as humanities to address current issues of local, national, and international importance. Work closely with instructors on geographic projects in two new GISC labs.
