The purpose of a BA (Law) degree is to allow the student to acquire knowledge of the South African legal system, private law, constitutional law and customary law.

Pitt-Johnstown has a solid record for placing graduates in law school. Pre-law – while not a major, minor, or series of courses – refers to anyone who wants to explore, prepare, and apply to law school. Law school requires no prerequisite courses and has no preferred majors.

The course will teach you about the sources of the law, how it is made and developed, the institutions within which that law is administered and the personnel who practice law.

Combining law with French, German or Spanish is both stimulating and a smart career move. You’ll divide your study equally between both subjects. With this BA (Honours) in Law and Languages degree, you’ll raise your legal awareness and acquire skills in legal analysis and methods. The name of your degree will reflect your chosen language (e.g. BA (Honours) Law and German).

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme consists of 24 courses of which 8 courses are at 100-level, 8 course are at 200-level and 8 courses are at 300-level including 2 x 100-level university courses and 2 x 200-level university courses. Students who enroll in the three-year BA degree programme may take Law as a major, a double major, or a minor.
