12 Language BA Degree Programs in Hungary

This program in BA in Slavonic Studies (Russian Philology) Slavic Philology (specialty: Russian Philology) is aimed at training specialists in the field of Russian language and literature. Students will learn how to work with complex texts related to different areas of cultural and social life. The program includes courses in linguistics, history, and theory of literature, Russian culture and art, and regional studies of Russia. The uniqueness of this program lies in the fact that students are also offered a module to study business Russian and business communication. Successful completion of this module enables graduates to be competitive specialists outside the scientific philological profile.

The aim of the English and American Studies BA is to train experts who have a proficient command of the English language and have profound knowledge regarding English-speaking cultures.

The aim of the Hungarian BA program is to provide students with a professional level of Hungarian in its language and literature. The program offers language training based on the experience of the Hungarian as a Foreign Language Department of Eötvös Loránd University, and also emphasizes the importance of literary and cultural studies. Eastern and Eastern-Central Europe are in the position to become central actors in cultural and economic connections between Asia and Europe.

BA in English and American Studies aims to develop high-level competence in English, an understanding of the structure and communicative requirements of English, knowledge about the literature and culture of English-speaking countries, as well as an openness and ability to cope with linguistic variety that characterises English as a Lingua Franca in global communication.

At the University of Pécs, Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, you can study Italian Language and Literature as an independent course in BA in Romance Philology and Cultures (Specialization in Italian Studies) Filologia romanza e cultura neolatina BA (Specializzazione in studi italiani) of study. Graduates will develop specific knowledge and skills through theory and practice to start a profitable working application in the field of Italian culture and language with the development of various basic skills, didactic research, international development, and special educational needs. In addition to deepening the aforementioned fields, particular attention must also be paid to interdisciplinarity. Furthermore, the course gives candidates the opportunity to access fields of study and work ranging from tourism to the various levels and modalities of the mass media, information, and communication, as well as moving competently in the field of cultural heritage and the vast universe of Italian culture spread throughout the world.

BA in Hungarian Literature and Linguistics program is designed to train experts in Hungarian language, literature, and culture. The graduates will be equipped with both the academic knowledge and the relevant language and practical skills to analyze literary texts, and linguistic and cultural phenomena in their wider intellectual, intercultural and historical contexts. Studying Hungarian language and literature at the University of Pécs entails the development and sophistication of students' language and reading skills, as well as their ability to place and interpret linguistic questions and literary texts in their wider intellectual, cultural and historical contexts.

By obtaining their BA in English and American Studies, students will possess a wide range of skills and knowledge a thorough understanding of the English language and of English-speaking peoples and cultures worldwide, a high level of competence in the English language meeting the competency requirements of both the Written and Oral parts of the Advanced Level State Proficiency Examination, familiarity with basic research- and study techniques within the field of English Studies, the ability to translate a variety of non-field-specific texts in an intelligent manner.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Pécs offers a BA in Germanic Studies (Specialisation German as Ethnic Minority Language) in German as a Minority Language. The students acquire knowledge in the areas of the German language, literature, and culture and develop skills in intercultural communication. Students specializing in German as a minority language also learn about the history, language use, folk culture, and literature of the Hungarian Germans.

The program in English and American Studies was founded at our university in 1993.

The programme trains specialists with in-depth knowledge of the English language and English-speaking cultures. It is ideal for students interested in the history, civilization, and culture of English-speaking countries, as well as in exploring linguistic aspects such as pronunciation, grammar, language varieties, and language policy.

The program is offered by the School of English and American Studies. The program can be completed either as a major or a minor program; the latter is only available for students who study in other major programs at ELTE. Students taking the program as a major opt for either the English or the American track at the end of the first term.
