Life doesn’t stop when school starts. The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies offers a program tailored to unique interests and schedules. Professional communication, environmental practice, justice studies, business – whatever the emphasis, we are committed to individual academic goals.

The BA in Interdisciplinary Studies challenges students to define themselves, develop their potential, and make important contributions to the world beyond academia. The degree offers the maximum flexibility, encompassing courses in our college as well as other FIU schools or colleges, with a mix of traditional and online classes.

The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies is an innovative program designed to offer students choice and flexibility. It will enable them to choose courses of study that align with their unique interests, passions, and talents. A BA in Interdisciplinary Studies focuses student attention on the interplay between academic fields and the ways that a broad range of course materials can prepare them to address the complex, multifaceted problems of today and tomorrow.

The Interdisciplinary Studies program emphasizes knowledge in the core content areas of mathematics, natural science, English, history, and social sciences. The School of Liberal Arts and Education Interdisciplinary Studies Program has two options: 1) Leading to an endorsement in Elementary Education and 2) Not leading to an Endorsement in Elementary Education. The option not leading to endorsement provides students with a multidisciplinary curriculum reflecting content areas and professional education coursework.

The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies can be completed with a major or minor to suit students' academic interests and professional aspirations. Carolina University offers a number of major and minor options including Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Biblical Studies, and various disciplines in the humanities or ministry.

The Judaic studies program offers students an interdisciplinary perspective on three millennia of Jewish culture: Jewish social, religious, and political history; Jewish literature — biblical, modern, and postmodern; Jewish thought; and modern Israel. The curriculum draws from both the humanities and the social sciences and covers a wide array of topics including modern Hebrew and Yiddish. Judaic studies majors can construct their areas of specialization within the major.

Our Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) is a flexible, highly individualized degree. It is a great way for you to develop a personalized major while completing a bachelor’s degree. You can earn your BGS degree on campus or online and can choose from over 100 areas of study, many that focus on high-demand careers. Outside the classroom, instructors engage in professional endeavors and research projects with you, and they provide individualized advisement and support. Indigenous studies is a diverse discipline unified by our engagement with Indigenous peoples and communities in a reciprocal manner, which forefronts Indigenous ways of knowing and knowledge systems, and respects their diversity and right to self-determination. Given the sordid history of Indigenous-settler relations around the world, we are well aware of the need to work towards equity, diversity, and inclusion and actively work to combat all forms of discrimination and prejudice in our teaching, research, and service to the community.

As an Asian Studies student you will begin your first year of studies with courses that introduce you to Asian Studies as a discipline and to the countries and cultures of East and South Asia.
