We offer a Bachelor of Arts in History, as well as a Certificate in Public & Applied History, and two Minors: History and Art History. With the Education Division, we also offer Bachelor of Arts degrees in Middle-Level Education Social Studies and Secondary Education Social Studies--History.

History, Social Studies, and Social Science students at Siena Heights experience a variety of classroom and extracurricular learning opportunities. Class size is typically 15-20 students, enabling students to develop effective discussion skills. Students learn from video and web-based presentations as well as instructor lectures, classroom activities, and other learning adventures.

Our curriculum explores human societies over time and across the globe while preparing students to conduct their historical research. Our courses explore everything from the history of the modern U.S. to the history of ancient China, and many classes cut across geographic boundaries to address such questions as women and gender history, imperialism, environmental history, and the history of science, technology, and medicine.

Graceland invites History students to study the past with an examination of multiple cultures in order to gain an appreciation of people with diverse backgrounds. Students have opportunities to study the history of the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America, as well as explore world history as a whole through a robust curriculum. Based on the standards suggested by the American Historical Association, the program emphasizes the development of analytical skills for interpreting change and continuity, using and assessing historical documents, and evaluating different historical interpretations.

The medieval and early modern studies major enables students to custom-build an interdisciplinary course of study in the history of political, religious and social institutions and in cultural production — from science and technology to theater, literature, music and art. Courses are selected from departmental offerings across campus.
