General Education concentrations challenge students to develop significant expertise outside their major. Each concentration consists of four courses chosen from a faculty-designed menu that is structured on the basis of a clearly articulated organizing principle. Some concentrations focus on a particular issue or topic or area of inquiry identified by several professors working across different disciplines; others are formed within a single discipline. Some concentrations may include relevant co-curricular experiences such as significant community service, orchestra, theatrical performance, or volunteer work. The required concentrations may also be fulfilled by completing a minor or a second major. General Education concentrations appear on the transcript.

The Bachelor of Arts in Education (BAEd) degree prepares students to seek employment in entry-level positions in elementary or secondary art education. Students will consider, research, and learn to adapt curriculum to the needs of children and adolescents from diverse backgrounds and ability levels. Classes are taught by experienced, respected faculty who bring knowledge and expertise into the classroom.

The Undergraduate Education major provides students with two State of New Jersey teacher certifications and the possibility of a third certification for Teacher of Students with Disabilities, which is optional.

The Education Studies major is designed for students who do not need teacher certification because they do not intend to teach in the United States, or whose career goal is to hold a paraprofessional position in a school, or who intend to go directly into an MAT program.
