The B.A. program in linguistics in our department is designed to give students a solid background in the core areas of phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, as well as in more applied areas such as psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics. Studies in the department take place in English, but this is not the only language being studied; the approach in the department is that of general linguistics which aims to study human language and the human linguistic capacity.

Our BA Honours in French promotes the in-depth study of Francophone and French Literature. We specialize in the study of specific genres like autobiography and the experimental novel, and of specific periods, like the twentieth-century French theatre.

This BA (Honours) in Arts and Humanities (French) degree gives you the freedom to combine the study of different subject areas in the arts and humanities. You'll develop a specialism in French, exploring aspects of the language and its cultures around the world. You can combine this with a second specialism or choose to develop broader interests in art history, classical studies, creative writing, English language, English literature, history, other modern languages, music, philosophy, and religious studies.
