We have the resources you need to study art history, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, painting, drawing, design and mixed media. All classes are taught by caring, supportive professors and instructors, and our fully equipped facilities include upgrades for health and safety. Northern has one of the nicest art studios in the region, and seniors have the opportunity to work in a private studio. Student work can be showcased in one of three galleries located in modern and historic campus spaces.

The studio art track is designed to prepare students for careers in the fine arts in areas such as drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, or printmaking. It may also serve as a foundation for graduate study in fine arts.

The Department of Art & Design’s bachelor of fine arts (BFA) 87-credit program is for students who want to become professional artists and who wish to pursue their specific professional goals within the stimulating intellectual climate of Rutgers University.

Students studying fine art gain basic experience in the artistic processes of several different studio areas.
