This studio-centered course offers you the opportunity to explore the disciplines of painting, sculpture, performance, installation, printmaking, and lens-based and digital media. The Fine Art course is characterized by a profound synergy between academic and technical teaching and learning. You'll work towards an independent, critical, and reflective practice, supported through tutorials, workshops, lectures, study trips, and, in the first year, weekly contact with your Academic Advisor.

The program in Fine Arts combines training in traditional artistic media with a critical approach to making art. Courses at all levels, on-site and in the studio, emphasize technical ability, visual expression, creative innovation, critical observation, and analysis. Our innovative Fine Art Mixed Media BA will give you the opportunity to explore and develop work across boundaries within the ever-expanding contemporary fine art disciplines. Our course enables you to work across disciplines or within the more traditionally defined areas of practice, while referencing relevant critical and theoretical debates. You'll be encouraged to bring highly individual approaches to studio practice, coupled with an emphasis on experiential learning – these are the defining factors that have established the course at the cutting edge of contemporary practice. We encourage creativity, individuality and personal growth, and once you've acquired the basic skills, you can negotiate your own individual programme of study with tutors. The purpose of the BA (Visual Art) Degree is to develop students' creative, imaginative and critical knowledge, skills, and academic research capabilities to practice as artists within the domains of the visual-cultural industries, and/or to engage in postgraduate study in visual art.

You’ll rapidly develop your own practice in animation, and will be encouraged to work on shared initiatives.
