This innovative interdisciplinary program combines the study of human behavior and environmental science. It emphasizes the pivotal role that economic markets, politics, and human behavior play in creating and solving environmental problems. With an emphasis on social and environmental justice, it looks at the impact of sustainability programs on the global environment and human communities.

Local and global societies face an array of environmental problems, from biodiversity loss to climate change to various types of pollution. To tackle these problems, future leaders need to understand the science behind the issues as well as the societal context in which they occur. The Environmental Sciences and Studies (ESS) major provides students with the knowledge and skills to become these future leaders through two major options.

The Bachelor of Arts in Environmental and Sustainability Studies emphasizes a social science and humanities perspective on environmental and sustainability challenges and opportunities. The program provides a strong philosophical, social and scientific basis for understanding the full diversity of environmental and sustainability issues, and positions students to be effective agents of social and environmental innovation, who can promote mitigation of, and/or adaptation to, environmental challenges. An understanding of the foundations of environmental citizenship is emphasized. The degree offers students substantial opportunity for experiential learning through a number of courses.

Our environmental studies program empowers students to develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding required to address the complex environmental concerns that face our world today. An interdisciplinary approach integrates the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities.

Environment and Urban Sustainability BA Hons is the environment your passion Understanding and managing our environment are among the defining challenges of today’s world. Governments at local, regional, provincial and national levels seek to research, understand and manage environmental issues.

The Bachelor of Arts in Urban Sustainability offers students a broadly defined degree option at the bachelor’s degree level that indicates their interest in a career in the sustainable development, urban development, and environmental management field.

Our environment faces major challenges every day from pollution to climate change to species extinction. These environmental challenges will require significant adjustments in the way we work, live, govern in order for our planet to survive and thrive. People will need to become more educated about how to adapt to and mitigate environmental issues, making a career in environmental science more important and vital than ever.

Preserving and protecting the planet is more important than ever. This program explores how citizens, corporations and governments resist or embrace and enact eco-friendly ideas and approaches. You’ll learn how to research and resolve environmental issues through fieldwork, consulting for external clients, investigating urban sustainability issues, going on an international exchange and pursuing an optional practicum.

The Natural Resources emphasis area is multidisciplinary, including coursework from biology, geology, natural resources, and environmental science. Courses in writing, ethics, and special topic integrative seminars broaden students' knowledge base and hone their communication and critical thinking skills.

Geography majors study how the world works, from Earth’s physical features to climate changes to cultural relationships between people and the land. They address some of the world's most urgent challenges, from globalization to world hunger, agricultural development to economic inequality, immigration to global health.
