Our BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance degree is taught in classic conservatoire style. As a result it is rigorous, intensive and highly creative.

If you're considering a career in the performing arts, this combination of dance and drama is both artistic and practical. You'll be encouraged to develop your own identity in dance and as a theatre-maker, reflecting your own interests and career pathway. To prepare you for working in the performance industry, you'll develop analytical, choreographic, directorial, ensemble and performance skills.

If you want to study dance and performance practice, but also want to gain an understanding of their history and the current dance industry, this is the course for you. No matter what your dance experience and background are, this course enables you to experiment and explore your creative potential, preparing you for a career in the dance or creative arts industries.

The B.A. in Dance with a concentration in Applied Dance requires fewer major credit hours than the Performance, Choreography, and Theory concentration. Applied Dance may be helpful to Dance majors who wish to pursue coursework outside the department to prepare for careers such as dance therapy, arts marketing, and physical therapy for dance.

The Bachelor of Arts in Dance with a concentration in Dance Education nurtures future educators who teach, perform, and create dance. In addition to student teaching and other clinical experiences in public schools, students participate in dance-making, internships, and community engagement. This program is designed for students who want to teach dance in public schools and earn their K-12 teacher licensure in NC, but also benefits dancers who want to teach in studios or community centers.

You'll use dance to explore yourself and the world around you within an inspiring and supportive community of people.

The Bachelor of Arts in Dance with concentration in Performance, Choreography, and Theory is a comprehensive program of classes in technique and performance, creative process, production, history, culture, and theory. Students also have opportunities to perform in two fully produced concerts a year choreographed by faculty and guest artists, as well as in a student-choreographed, department-produced concert. The B.A. degree allows the flexibility to pursue a double major.
