Our BA English Literature and Creative Writing programme allows you to study all periods of literature in English, from the Anglo-Saxon period to the twenty-first century, together with training in Creative Writing. Are you a budding novelist, Netflix screenwriter or experimental poet? On this degree, you'll learn the art and craft of writing in all its forms. Taught by published authors, you'll gain a wide range of skills across creative and non-fiction genres. You'll examine how writing can be used to communicate in a range of contexts, with appropriate uses of style, register and form.

This course provides students with the opportunity to learn how to make socially engaged theatre while focusing on the role of the writer within a wide range of performance contexts. Students will participate practically with the processes of writing for performance, whilst also engaging with the different theories and practices of theatre making and performance. Building on its close relationship with the Drama, Applied Theatre and Education course, Writing for Performance focuses on socially engaged practice whilst introducing students to the dramaturgical skills of writing.

Our Creative Writing and Journalism programme offers the unique experience of combining both subjects to enable you to fully explore and develop your skills across different styles of writing such as fiction, screenwriting, short story, long-form journalism and multimodal journalism.
