The BA in Chemistry is intended to fulfill the needs of students who wish for a broader liberal arts education. This option is recommended for students who are preparing to enter medical or dental schools or who may wish to enter other scientific and non-scientific fields related to chemistry, such as environmental science, pharmacy, business, or the law. This program satisfies the requirements for state certification in chemistry for secondary school teachers.

The Department of Education provides students with an opportunity to gain a firm foundation in the elements of secondary education. As a student in the Thiel College Education Department, students will experience high-quality education programs based on the latest “Effective Schools” research that includes instructional teaching strategies based on the work of Robert Marzano, Jay McTighe, Grant Wiggins, Charlotte Danielson, and other current leaders in the field of education. Help students learn about compounds, elements, molecules, atoms, ions, and chemical reactions. Lead them in laboratory experiments that teach them the importance of the scientific method. Skills include decision-making, innovative thinking, listening, and oral and written communication.

The B.A. in Natural Sciences Chemistry Option serves to establish subject matter competency through coursework as approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), which waives the California Subject Exam for Teachers (CSET) and streamlines the process for students to enter the Single Subject Teaching Credential program in Science.

The Chemistry BA gives students exposure to analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry while providing the flexibility to take additional elective courses. Students interested in professional, law, or graduate school or those who anticipate working in careers related to secondary education or business will find this degree attractive. The University of Denver's bachelor of arts in chemistry stresses breadth, with fewer required chemistry courses than other chemistry degree options. This degree is designed to provide excellent preparation for secondary school science teachers, as well as for individuals who are considering careers in interdisciplinary fields such as environmental law and technology development.

Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with an emphasis in forensics The BA in chemistry with an emphasis in forensics requires 76 credit hours. You will study general, analytical, and organic chemistry, as well as Instrumental analysis and applications in forensic science.
