The BA in Biology provides a sound liberal arts education with substantial experience in quantitative and analytical thought, along with preparation for related professions. The program provides the strong background necessary not only for graduate study in the life sciences, but also enables students to develop careers in a wide variety of disciplines, including teaching, environmental management, microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, genetics, wildlife management, fisheries biology, and marine science.

The Department of Education provides students with an opportunity to gain a firm foundation in the elements of secondary education. As a student in the Thiel College Education Department, students will experience high-quality education programs based on the latest “Effective Schools” research that includes instructional teaching strategies based on the work of Robert Marzano, Jay McTighe, Grant Wiggins, Charlotte Danielson, and other current leaders in the field of education. Biology teachers guide students to understand how things happen in the natural and physical environment and illustrate the simplicity of design that underlies the complex events that occur in nature.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers majors leading to a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts Degree. The B.A. Degree also has a Biochemistry Option. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is designed primarily for students who plan to enter graduate programs in chemistry or other closely related sciences. Students graduating with this degree will be certified to the Society and will receive a certificate from the ACS. The Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry fulfills the need of those students who are pursuing pre-medical or pre-dental programs as well as those who plan to enter fields such as business, environmental or patent law, where a background in chemistry can be of great utility.

The B.A. in Natural Sciences Biology Option serves to establish subject matter competency through coursework as approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), which waives the California Subject Exam for Teachers (CSET) and streamlines the process for students to enter the Single Subject Teaching Credential program in Science.
