12 Applied Linguistics BA Degree Programs

Language shapes our world and communicates knowledge. Communication through language and talk is universal across all cultures and has allowed humans to develop thought and share information.

The B.A. program in linguistics in our department is designed to give students a solid background in the core areas of phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, as well as in more applied areas such as psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics. Studies in the department take place in English, but this is not the only language being studied; the approach in the department is that of general linguistics which aims to study human language and the human linguistic capacity.

The postgraduate program in Applied Linguistics and Literary Theory, in drawing on the knowledge fields of both its disciplines, is aimed at the specialized education and training and research needs of language practitioners such as translators, interpreters, text editors, and language planners, copywriters, and language teachers. Translation and interpreting are complex linguistic, cognitive, and textual processes that, among other things, also entail socio-cultural mediation.

This BA programme aims to nurture students to become competent English language professionals and responsible global citizens in the 21st century. Fresh graduates find employment in media and journalism, retail, human resources, public relations, marketing and advertising, publishing, education, and the civil service, where a high level of competence in English and professional communication is needed.

This major aims to educate students so that they will become language professionals who are familiar with linguistics and language-related applications. Students will also develop an analytical, critical and creative mind and an open attitude towards people from different cultures.
