Our BA degree in Acting is a contemporary, practice-based programme designed to prepare you for the demands of today’s performance and media industries. You’ll build the craft, confidence and adaptability to take on diverse roles across theatre, film, TV and digital platforms – while developing the self-awareness and initiative needed to navigate your career with purpose.

Acting CDT celebrates the creative potential of collaborative processes, as well as the development of the individual actor. The core actor training includes the psychophysical techniques of Jacques Lecoq, Michael Chekhov, Constantin Stanislavski and Kristin Linklater and emphasizes an embodied and experiential approach. The course encourages actors to develop rehearsal techniques for script-based work as well as explore the most up-to-date forms of theatre and filmmaking and to have a full creative and political engagement with their work. Students are entitled to full Equity status upon graduation. Acting CDT is in creative partnership with international touring theatre company Complicate.

Leeds Conservatoire's Actor Musicianship programme offers practical training for actors with instrumental skill. Through practical skills training in Acting, Music, Movement, Spoken and Sung Voice and Performance-based Research you will develop the skills to be a highly employable, multi-disciplinary storyteller.

The philosophy of the course can be summed up by the words, ‘embodiment’, ‘imagination’ and ‘interaction’. The training develops the actor’s body and voice as strong and effective communicators of thought, emotion and intention, and opens up the imagination so that the actor can create and sustain three-dimensional worlds from the playwright’s text. These processes invariably take place in an interactive context so that the actor is constantly learning to respond to outside stimuli – whether people, objects or atmosphere – in an open and uncensored way. The Acting and Theatre Arts (Top Up) course enables applicants who have completed an HND/FdA in a relevant Acting/Drama discipline to progress onto the final year of the BA qualification. Our popular Acting and Theatre Arts degree blends traditional academic study with practical drama-school training. Acting, plays, directing, contemporary drama, practitioners, playwrights and applied theatre are central to this course.
