11 On-Campus Medicine and Health Sciences Associate of Science Programs

The Associate in Science in Public Health Science for Transfer Degree is designed for prospective California State University (CSU) students who are preparing to transfer and complete a bachelor's degree with a major in Public Health Science or a related field. This degree prepares students to become competent professionals in a wide variety of health-related disciplines.

The Associate in Science degree in Allied Health Science is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year program or a community college allied-health occupation program, such as Respiratory Therapy, Dental Hygiene, Radiologic Technology, or Registered Nurse.

The program is designed to prepare students for advanced study in Public Health and Community Health Education. Students will examine individual and community health through a public health lens specifically analyzing the ways in which social determinants of health and health equity have an impact on society.

The College of San Mateo Nursing Program provides students with opportunities for learning at the College, local hospitals, and related health agencies. Clinical practice begins early in the first semester. Upon graduation, the candidate receives an Associate in Science degree and is eligible to take the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX). The graduate is also eligible to transfer to a four-year nursing program.

The Biology degree in Pre-Nursing prepares students to transfer to a four-year program at a baccalaureate institution. Upon completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, graduates choose from first-level professional nursing staff positions in specializations which include community health, geriatrics, maternity, mental health, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery.

The AS-T major in Nutrition and Dietetics prepares students for transfer into bachelor's degree programs in Nutrition and Dietetics and similar areas. Completion of this AS-T meets minimum eligibility for transfer to the California State University system.

The Associate of Science in Biotechnology Manufacturing Technician prepares graduates with the skills and experience to work in the biotechnology industry as a production technician. A production technician operates and maintains equipment used to manufacture protein pharmaceutical products.

The Biotechnology degree and certificates prepare graduates for careers in the life science industry and for transfer. Students receive hands-on training in biology and chemistry and master a variety of skills essential to the field of biotechnology.

CSM's Dental Assisting program is a two semester program, accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. The program provides a comprehensive education in clinical dental assisting as preparation to sit for both the State (Registered Dental Assistant) and National (Certified Dental Assisting ) examinations. Clinical experience is arranged at the University of California San Francisco Schools of Dentistry, and in various dental offices in local area.

Respiratory Care is a two-year program that prepares students to administer care and life support to patients with breathing disorders and cardiopulmonary abnormalities. Respiratory Care Practitioners participate in three phases of patient care: diagnosis, treatment, and patient management.

Surgical Technologists are employed in hospitals, surgery centers, and physician's offices to deliver patient care before, during and after surgery. Skyline's program combines academic and clinical instruction that includes learning to prepare surgical instruments, passing them to the surgeon, and handling specialized equipment.
