The Associate of Arts in Keyboard Performance is a professional degree designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the music industry. Graduates of this program are qualified musicians who are ready to compete as leaders in the competitive and ever-changing landscape of the music industry. Program Learning Outcomes reflect the mission of the academic programs of the institution and address the acquisition of performance proficiency, specific professional knowledge and academic merit.

The Associate of Arts program is full-time Professional Degree that develops relevant skills in instrumental technique, performance, and musicianship (and/or music production) as they relate to contemporary music styles. Upper level courses personalize your experience beyond instrumental training or music production. As a Professional AA Degree, the AA program does not include general education requirements and may not transfer to another institution. However, the six quarter credits will transfer into LACM’s Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts program. You can major in Music Performance (with an emphasis in Bass, Brass & Woodwind, Drums, Guitar, or Vocals), Music Production (with an emphasis in Music Producing & Recording or Composing for Visual Media), or Composition (Songwriting).

The Associate of Arts in Saxophone, Trombone, or Trumpet Performance is a professional degree designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the music industry. Graduates of this program are qualified musicians who are ready to compete as leaders in the competitive and ever-changing landscape of the music industry. Department Learning Outcomes reflect the mission and learning outcomes of the institution, the academic program and to the acquisition of skills that are specific to a concentrated field of study.

The Journalism AA‐T (Associate in Arts for Transfer) curriculum prepares students to seek employment with print and online newspapers, magazines, and digital publications. Graduates will be prepared to work as reporters, writers, news researchers, feature article writers, and editorial and design specialists.

In this area of emphasis, history, culture, and contemporary issues are explored and analyzed through the intersecting perspectives of ethnicity, race, class, and gender. The curriculum combines an interdisciplinary knowledge of our socio-cultural world. Courses are open to all students in the College.
