The Photography program develops professional image-makers through student-centered inquiry and practice in visual communication. Studies in Photography encompass the history, critical and aesthetic theory, and varied practices of photography as a medium of visual communication and expression in a diverse cultural society. Students explore a variety of photographic formats, including 35mm, medium format, and 4x5 view cameras, and acquire experience in black-and-white, color, alternative, and digital imaging processes using state-of-the-art methods, tools, and facilities.

The Photography program is a skills-based curriculum that satisfies humanities distribution requirements, elective requirements, and foundation work required for most four-year art degrees. In each course, you will learn the history of photography, techniques, and modern applications of both. Both traditional wet and contemporary digital labs provide broad exposure to an ever-changing discipline.

The Graphic Design & Photography Department offers a two-year Associate in Arts Degree. The Associate in Arts Degree prepares a student for transfer to four-year institutions such as Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo; California State University, Long Beach; California State University, San José; California State University, Los Angeles, CalArts, CCA, or OTIS. It also provides career technical training and education in creative problem-solving that can be used to qualify for jobs in the Graphic Design field after completion.

Berkeley City College’s A.A. degree in Digital Imaging prepares students for entry-level jobs in the photography, graphic design, illustration, imaging, and data visualization fields and provides upgraded skills for those already employed in multimedia and data design fields. The program is interdisciplinary and focuses on developing analytical, artistic, critical thinking, and computer skills.

This pathway is designed to meet Associate in Arts degree requirements with a concentration in Digital Arts/Photography. Students who are artistic, good with technology, and are creative thinkers would be ideally suited for this pathway. In this pathway, you’ll learn the creative, technical and problem-solving skills to design visual graphics for print, web, video, social media, and more.

The Visual Fine Arts: Photography Option at Tunxis Community College provides an introduction to photography fundamentals.

Photography is both an art and a technical vocation. This program is designed to develop students' aesthetic and technical abilities by working with design, composition, lighting, various types of image content, photographic processes, image critique, and presentation techniques.

Professional Photography students at PPCC learn from some of the finest professional photographers in the Pikes Peak Region. Through classroom work, intensive projects, and internships, students gain a deep understanding of the photography field and the technical skills they need to prepare for a creative, rewarding career.

This course introduces students to digital imaging techniques. Emphasis is placed on the technical application of the camera, digital photographic lighting methods, and overall composition. Upon completion, students should be able to take digital images and understand the technical aspects of producing high quality photos.
