Political Science is the rigorous study of governments and related institutions, public policies, and political behavior both in the United States and abroad. This field of study is increasingly crucial in today’s complex world. Social, economic, environmental, and moral issues have political implications; the policy decisions of governments both at home and abroad affect all aspects of our daily lives.

Political science concerns itself with the study of government and politics at the local, state, national and international levels. It examines such important phenomena as power, political parties, voting and political behavior, international relations, bureaucratic administration and public policy.

Political scientists examine how societies govern themselves at the local, state, national, and international levels. We consider how power connections create the institutions, practices, and relations of governance and ask big questions about “Who gets what, when, and how?” You will develop skills in planning and development, research, analysis, communication, and civic engagement. We prepare you for careers in public service, law, business, and more when you graduate.

The following course set fulfills the requirement of the Specialization in Political Science for the Associate of Arts (DTA)Degree and prepares students for transfer as a political science major with junior standing at the University of Washington-Tacoma and the University of Washington-Seattle.

The Associate in Arts in Political Science for Transfer degree (AA-T) prepares students for transfer into bachelor's degree programs in Political Science and similar programs at a CSU campus and guarantees admission to the CSU system.

The Associate in Arts in Political Science for Transfer (AA-T in Political Science) is designed to provide a clear pathway to a CSU institution for students who plan to transfer and complete a CSU major or baccalaureate degree in Spanish. This program offers insights into these events on the local, state, national, and international levels and these insights also encourage the involvement of the citizenry. Students completing this program successfully will be able to identify and explain the sources of and reasons for democratic government.

In this program, students develop knowledge, analytical skills, and critical insights in politics. Further, students gain expertise in political issues that have absorbed thinkers throughout the ages, studying the causes and consequences of political developments ranging from local elections to armed uprisings.

Students who successfully complete the AA-T in Political Science earn specific guarantees for transfer to the CSU system: admission to a CSU with junior status and priority admission to a CSU campus and to a program or major in Political Science or a similar major. Students transferring to a CSU campus will be required to complete no more than 60 units after transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree.

Students of the Associate of Arts (International Relations) Degree program will gain multi-disciplinary knowledge in the faculties of arts, humanities, and social science, and develop their critical thinking and research skills. The program also includes a customizable concentration in international relations, which allows students to explore contemporary and historic globalization

Political science is a social science which looks at the systems and practice of politics, including governance, political activities, thoughts and behaviours, institutions and power structures. The study of political science includes law and public policy, international relations, the administration of justice and the electoral process.

The Associate of Arts Degree in Political Science prepares students to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science or a related field and provides them with an understanding of political systems and behaviour.Students will explore concepts and structures of power, human interaction, local and global challenges, and international relationships. Students will be able to analyze and understand the principles of power relations that influence the lives of those around them.

The Associate of Arts in Justice and Security Studies program provides students with a comprehensive background in local, state, national, and international security considerations. With an emphasis on both theoretical perspectives and practical concerns, the Justice and Security Studies program develops an interdisciplinary understanding of the fundamentals of security whether in law enforcement, information security, or national and global security.

The Associate of Arts, Political Science degree is one that students can attain after successfully completing an exact set of courses. Once these courses are completed, all will transfer to the Bachelor's degree in Political Science at any public college or university in the state of Georgia. The law and society major seeks to understand the nature of law and legal institutions from a variety of perspectives. The major is interdisciplinary with major responsibility in the Political Science Department and electives offered by the Administration of Justice Department. The program is designed to benefit both those who desire a liberal education and the student who intends to enter graduate or law school. The major provides preparation for transfer into four-year colleges and universities, especially the University of California at Santa Barbara.

This pathway meets requirements for the Associate of Arts-Direct Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA) degree with a concentration in Political Science. Completion of this degree opens doors to a variety of careers in fields including public service, government, interest groups, sustainability, businesses, social media, and education. It also allows you to transfer at the junior level to a four-year college or university with core Political Science classes completed.
