NLC's Associate of Arts Degree (Health Studies) prepares students for entry into health-related degree programs, with an emphasis on the University of Northern British Columbia's Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program. The two-year Associate Degree (Health Studies) provides broad coverage across the Arts and Sciences while introducing students to nursing as a career and meeting UNBC's core prerequisite requirements in the social sciences, English, Indigenous studies, human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, psychology, and statistics. Students who complete NLC's Associate of Arts Degree (Health Studies) with UNBC's grade requirements have an optimal transfer pathway into the Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program (Please see the NBNP webpage for more information) and will be included among NLC students who have first claim to a designated number of seats each year. The partnership between NLC and UNBC enables prospective Registered Nurses to complete their post-secondary education in the north, for employment in the north.

The Associate of Arts (DTA) degree consists of 90 quarter credits earned in General Requirements, Distribution Requirements, and Electives. The public community colleges and the four-year colleges and universities of the State of Washington have an established Direct Transfer Agreement. That agreement allows students who hold the Associate of Arts (DTA) degree to transfer at least 90 quarter credits (60-semester credits) to four-year institutions for the purpose of satisfying most or all of the general education requirements of the receiving institution.

The Liberal Arts Associate in Arts degree program with a Bio-Medical Sciences emphasis is designed to provide students with a foundation in the biological and medical sciences while also offering a broad range of liberal arts coursework. The Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer degree (AA-T Kinesiology) is designed to prepare students for a seamless transfer with junior status and priority admission to their local CSU campus to a program or major in Kinesiology or similar major for completion of a baccalaureate degree.

This program provides students training both in pure science and in the practical application of science to matters of everyday life. This program is designed for students who seek to learn to examine psychological processes from multiple perspectives and to apply psychological principles and methods to personal and social issues in ways that promote self-understanding, personal development, and effective interpersonal relationships as members of a diverse society.

Students pursuing the AA-T in Psychology will study the nature of consciousness and the development of the person; basic processes of human perception, learning, cognition, and motivation; the relationship of behavior to physiology; and the nature of psychological disorders and how psychologists use their knowledge to help improve the quality of people’s lives.

The Associate in Arts in Psychology for Transfer (AA-T) degree is intended to meet the lower-division requirements for Psychology majors (or majors that have been deemed similar in the CSU system). The Associate in Science in Medical Sciences is a Pre-Professional degree that prepares students for transfer to baccalaureate degree programs that will lead to careers in allied health care fields. The program is designed as a pathway to further study in a variety of health care and/or pre-medical specialized fields such as pre-physical therapy, pre-physician assistant or pre-pharmacy. Through required coursework, students gain the necessary knowledge and skills for admission into allied health care programs.

The Community Social Services/Substance Abuse Associate in Arts (AA) Degree is designed to prepare students for employment in entry-level paraprofessional positions providing counseling, case management, crisis management, and relapse prevention services to substance abuse clients. The program also offers further training for persons already employed in the field.

The Associate in Arts in Social and Behavioral Sciences degree program provides students with a broad perspective on human behavior. It is designed to stimulate appreciation for, and understanding of, values, ideas, and artifacts of culture and society.
