4 Environmental and Earth Sciences Associate of Arts Programs

The Environmental Studies Program is an interdisciplinary program designed to develop an understanding of living and non-living earth processes and how they affect and are affected by the human population. Courses in biology, earth sciences and history provide a foundation in the functioning of living systems including population growth, ecology, and toxicology; geologic processes including energy resources, geologic hazards, and pollution; and human attitudes towards nature including historical perspective and context for our current situation. Through these courses students will gain a better understanding of how humans are intimately connected with the environment and how human activities impact and are impacted by the environment.

The Associate of Arts Degree in Environmental Studies provides students with a broad, interdisciplinary perspective on global environmental issues and prepares them to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies or a related field. Students will be able to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications and to make connections between and among different disciplines across the Humanities, Natural and Social Sciences. Students will gain an understanding of complex interactions between societies and their environments at local, national, and global scales.

Earth Sciences at MPC introduces Geology and Oceanography in one of the most stunning settings to study either. Monterey Bay and the Monterey Peninsula provide world-class examples of processes that shape our earth and oceans. Scientists from around the world come here to study what is happening in your back yard.

The transfer program offers one Associate of Arts degree. Although there is only one degree, there are multiple disciplines within this degree.
