12 Engineering, Architecture and Aviation Associate of Arts Programs

The Landscape Architecture Associate in Arts degree program provides students with the basic foundation and skills to pursue a career or further education in Landscape Architecture. Course topics include design process and principles, site analysis, site planning, planting design, construction, topographic form, graphic representation, computer-assisted design, and professional practice. Students with this degree will fulfill three objectives: Meet the minimum educational requirement to take the California Landscape Architects Registration Exam (LARE); obtain basic skills necessary to start work in a professional landscape design or design-build office and get basic preparation for transferring to a four-year or graduate program in landscape architecture.

Industry is seeing a growing demand for a workforce that combines some of the traditional skill sets of building technicians with advanced skills in controls programming, networking, and systems integration. “Control Technicians” or “Building Automation Technicians” present an emerging and rapidly expanding market of high-wage employment for community college graduates. Their skill sets will also be needed for increasing green workforce demands to implement energy management, efficiency and sustainability measures in buildings.

Students are given two options in order to prepare for a specialized field of study within the Automotive Technology program: the Chassis and Drivetrain option and the Engine Performance and Emissions option. New students entering either option are encouraged to consider taking preparation classes in automotive theory and computer skills before enrolling in the regular required courses for the certificate.

This program of study is designed for students wishing to pursue a transfer degree in architecture. Students completing the program will receive an Associate in Arts degree, which prepares them for transfer to a four-year university.

The Architecture Design Option develops an understanding and ability to create within the discipline of architecture through the study of art, art history, theory, technology, and studio work.

Engineering is the profession in which the physical, biological, and social sciences are applied to solve practical problems for the benefit of society. As an engineering student, you will learn to observe and describe problems that deal with human needs and to seek useful solutions to these problems. Your skills upon graduation will be useful to you not only as an engineer, but also as a professional in management, sales, operations, manufacturing and other fields.

This transfer plan is designed to help you prepare to transfer to a Florida public university as a junior to complete a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial & Systems, Electrical/Electronics, Industrial/Manufacturing, Geomatics, Construction, Computer, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering. The courses within the transfer plan are placed within the General Education requirements and/or the elective credit requirements to earn your Associate in Arts degree; students can only earn one Associate in Arts degree. Please note that the specific university chosen for transfer may have additional requirements than those listed here. For specific transfer information, meet with a Valencia advisor to review your transfer plans, and check the transfer institution catalog for specific degree requirements. Students are strongly encouraged to take electives that relate to their intended Bachelor’s degree program.
