The Elementary Education Associate of Arts for Transfer is designed for students seeking to enter the teaching profession, typically in K-8 settings, and planning to transfer to a four-year university to pursue the Baccalaureate degree in order to meet California state requirements for teaching.

Berkeley City College’s Elementary Teacher Education AA-T is an interdisciplinary program that meets state guidelines in order to prepare students to begin their path toward becoming elementary school teachers. According to the Employment Development Department, elementary school teachers are among the top twenty-five “occupations with the most job openings” in California, with new jobs opening annually.

The Associate of Arts Degree (Education) prepares students for entry into the Alaska Highway Consortium on Teacher Education Alaska Highway Consortium on Teacher Education (AHCOTE), the joint teacher-training program offered by Simon Fraser University and NLC. The Associate of Arts Degree (Education) comprises a range of education courses as well as other first- and second-year arts and sciences courses.

Each A.A.T. degree consists of the Core Curriculum selected by Dallas College and additional coursework required for the specific certification sought.

The Education curriculum was developed to meet the needs of current and prospective students interested in transferring to a four-year institution for the purpose of receiving a PA Public School Teacher's Certification.

The Teacher Education Transfer Program is designed to enable students who wish to become effective elementary or secondary education teachers to begin their professional studies at Schoolcraft and transfer into a teacher education program at a university. The coursework is based on both the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium - Model Core Teaching Standards (2011) (InTASC) and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards.

The Special Education emphasis provides students with various foundational courses in the field of special education. The student completes the first two years of requirements leading toward a baccalaureate degree.

The Liberal Studies: Emphasis in Education Degree prepares students to transfer to a Liberal Studies—Teacher Education bachelor’s degree program. The degree is intended to provide students with options to select appropriate coursework to meet lower-division requirements of the Liberal Studies program of the four-year institution they are planning to attend. Articulation agreements for most Liberal Studies—Teacher Education programs offered at the University of California and the California State University systems are available on the ASSIST website.

The Associate of Arts General Studies is designed to provide students with the opportunity to acquire basic principles and skills in the general education area while pursuing specific interests. It prepares students to enter into the Bachelor of Science General Studies degree or to transfer to another bachelor’s program.

The Associate in Arts Degree in Liberal Arts with a Pre-Education option offers a degree path for students interested in teaching at the elementary grade-school level. This flexible degree plan option prepares students to transfer to a Professional Teacher Education program at a four-year college or university.

The Associate of Arts program in General Studies degree involves a curriculum of basic first- and second-year courses which fulfil the general education requirements of most four-year institutions.

To teach in Illinois public elementary schools (grades 1-6), teachers must be certified by the state of Illinois. To transfer into an approved baccalaureate program in elementary education as a junior, students must complete specific requirements and a minimum of 60 semester credits. Students are strongly encouraged to complete an A.A. degree prior to transfer. Since admission is competitive, completion of the recommended courses does not guarantee admission. Students should be aware that a minimum grade point average for most universities is required for program admission.
