The Hospitality Program is designed to offer students an in-depth introduction to a career in Hotel and Hospitality Management. The program is designed to allow students to further their immediate job skills as well as achieve the ability to transfer to four-year institutions. Students who complete the required HM course final examinations will be awarded an American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH & LA) course certificate for each course. Additionally, students who complete all eight of the required HM course final examinations will earn the prestigious Hospitality Operations Certificate from the AH & LA.

The A.S. in Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism Management (HRTM) is designed to prepare students to begin a career in the creative, people-oriented Hospitality, Recreation & Tourism industries, or to continue with their education toward a bachelor’s degree. The program provides a business planning and management foundation that examines industry trends, consumer behavior, guest services and other factors that influence Hospitality Recreation & Tourism development and promotion. Students will receive exposure to critical thinking skills as well as a broad education and awareness of values, skills, and attitudes that will prepare them for responsible citizenship roles across the scope of the hospitality, recreation and tourism industry and society.

The Travel, Tourism, and Hospitality Management curriculum, a course of study leading to the Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree, is administered by the Business & Technology Department. The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the industry, combining liberal arts courses, business courses, specialized courses in travel and tourism, and the experience of an internship. The internship gives students experience as travel industry employees, enabling them to utilize the knowledge learned in the classroom and to learn the realities of working in their chosen profession. The travel operations courses in the program are taught by experienced professionals.

The Hospitality and Tourism Management Associate in Science (A.S.) degree at Valencia College is a two-year program that prepares you to go directly into a specialized career within the hospitality industry. Not only is our program located in Orlando, one of the most popular tourist areas in the country, it also boasts a state-of-the-art facility—the Walt Disney World Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts, complete with a sophisticated computer lab equipped with a dynamic point-of-sale system and a hotel front desk simulation area. Valencia’s program combines classroom instruction with on-the-job training to help you move into supervisory and mid-management positions in lodging, food service, tourism, and hospitality. One of the most valuable aspects of the program is the 240-hour internship, which enables you to develop skills and expertise in guest services and management, as well as technical areas.

An Associate in Science in Business--Hospitality Management Option is a general business transfer degree specifically designed to transfer to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. It may also transfer to other regional or comprehensive universities. When students transfer, they can decide to specialize in specific areas of business such as: Hospitality Management in Hotel, Restaurant, or Casino operations, or the Tourism Industry. Students interested in transferring to a four-year university should consult with an academic advisor from that school to ensure transferability and completion of the appropriate program electives.
