The purpose of the Radiologic Science Associate in Science degree program at Merritt College is to prepare qualified practitioners in the art science of diagnostic medical imaging. This course is designed to prepare the student to perform clinical examinations of the human body with special consideration to image production and analysis, quality control, radiation protection, patient care, and radiographic equipment. In this accredited program, you’ll learn to use sophisticated imaging tools—such as X-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI—to capture images that help doctors treat and diagnose diseases and injuries. Courses explore anatomy, physiology, positioning and radiographic techniques. You’ll also receive hands-on clinical training in local medical imaging departments.

The Radiologic Technology program, which is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), is designed to prepare students to function as certified radiologic technologists. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the diagnostic uses of X-rays, as well as the technical skills to use x-ray equipment in both laboratory and clinical settings. The courses are developed to enable students to operate x-ray equipment, assist in the diagnosis of disease, and observe proper medical ethics. Students will learn the nature of radiation, the principles of electricity, the structure of x-ray machines, and the operation of a clinical x-ray department.

The Radiologic Technology program provides the knowledge that will enable students to enter the workforce as entry-level technologists. The didactic and clinical learning experiences require approximately 40 hours of participation per week in the second year of the program. Educational facilities located within Schoolcraft College include state-of-art classrooms and clinical training resources designed to promote an exceptional educational experience.
