7 Radiography Associate of Applied Science Programs in North America

The Associate of Science in Radiographic Science degree is a three-year program of study. The first year of pre-professional courses includes General Education Core and support courses. Professional courses include study and practice in the clinical application of radiographic procedures for the purposes of imaging all parts of the human body for medical diagnosis. Practice will be in community hospitals and clinics. Graduates of the program are eligible to complete the certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Radiographers are often on the front lines of injuries and illnesses, and they are instrumental in working with physicians to find a diagnosis. The Associate of Applied Science in Radiography prepares men and women from culturally and ethnically diverse communities for a career as professional radiographers.

The Radiography cooperative program between JFK Muhlenberg Snyder School of Radiography and Union County College offers the advantage of a hospital-based radiography program coupled with college-based academic courses.

Radiography involves assisting in the diagnosis and management of human illness by producing diagnostic images (also called radiographs or x-rays) of the structures in the body. Students receive hands-on training in radiographic procedures and imaging modalities and in an operating room and fluoroscopic procedures. Graduates of the program become eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Board examination for National Registration in addition to the New Jersey State licensure. Upon licensure, graduates will qualify to work with physicians in offices, clinics, and hospitals. As a radiographer, you can specialize in mammography, computed tomography (CT), digital vascular imaging (angiography), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

A Radiologic Technology (x-ray) program prepares radiographers to take x-rays of all parts of the human body for the purpose of diagnosing medical problems. Radiographers position the patients, who either lie on a table, sit, or stand, so that the correct parts of the body can be radiographed.
