25 Psychology and Behavioral Science Associate of Applied Science Programs

The addiction studies program at Edmonds provides you with instruction from industry leaders and teaches you the necessary skills for working in the recovery field. Our instructors teach a holistic behavioral-health care approach accredited by the National Addiction Studies Accreditation Commission. Our graduates not only satisfy the requirements for earning a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) certification with the Washington State Department of Health, employers in various disciplines highly seek them.

Family Support Studies is a unique program that has received national recognition. Many job fields, such as early childhood education, child welfare, public education, and health care, are using the principles and practices of family support to reach and serve all families. Our program brings individuals from diverse disciplines together to study family support principles and practices to enhance knowledge and skills in working with diverse families — economically, culturally, and linguistically. It's designed for students entering the job market for the first time, as well as for those changing careers or seeking to strengthen their professional skills in work involving families.

Behavioral Science ‐ Psychology Option is designed for transfer to a four‐year institution. Professions open to a psychology majors include teaching, testing, social work, psychological services, counseling, personnel work, and with additional education, clinical psychology, college teaching, sports psychology, medical social work, treatment therapist, and many others.

The Psychology program is designed to empower and affirm students through broad-based training in the foundations of psychology. The program emphasizes the need to understand human behavior through critical thinking and scientific endeavors as well as the importance of practice that is informed by science.

The Psychology program is designed for students planning to earn at least a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a closely related field. The curriculum focuses on developing a solid foundation of knowledge regarding human thought, behavior, and emotion, both individual and collective.

The Associate in Applied Science: Major in Early Care and Education degree is designed to prepare students for a variety of careers working with children and families in early care and education. Academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills are cultivated by learning opportunities based on best practices and current research in the field.

This Associate in Applied Science program prepares students for careers in child development services and provides those already employed in childcare with the opportunity to increase their knowledge and update their skills. The demand for graduates of this program continues to increase as the need for quality childcare becomes one of the most important concerns of our nation.Working with children to enrich their lives can be a very personally satisfying occupation.

Child development is an integral part of our society. Those who work in Child Development often give parents the opportunity to work or attend school without the worries of who will be watching their children. Not only do these workers impact the parents’ lives, but these Child Development workers are also key to the lives of young children. Child development workers teach and guide our young children. At Enterprise State Community College, the Child Development program is designed to prepare students for employment in a variety of childcare facilities. For those who are already working with young children, ESCC’s Child Development program provides an opportunity for them to upgrade their skills and competencies. ESCC offers students a variety of options to choose from. Students can choose from any of three short-term certificates, a long-term certificate, or even an Associate of Applied Science degree.

Students will study behavioural health concepts related to addiction and substance abuse, counselling, group dynamics, and human development during the program. The Behavior health program will also cover current trends, best practices, and up-to-date research findings.

The Associate in Applied Science in Early Childhood Education Degree provides the early childhood education professional with knowledge to care for children in child care centres, home child care, etc.

The Associate in Science degree in Child Development is designed to prepare students to work with young children in a variety of early care and education settings. Completing the requirements for the Associate in Science degree will fulfill the requirements to obtain the California Child Development Permit at the Teacher level which qualifies the student to work in a State of California funded child development center or preschool.

Students will learn about child development, demonstrate an understanding of developmentally appropriate practices, and implement curricula in field experiences. IVCC’s ECE program is a NAEYC-Accredited and Gateways-Entitled institution. Graduates of the program are highly sought after by area employers.

The Addictive Disorders Counseling Program is designed to prepare students to work in the field of addiction counseling. Both a Certificate of Achievement and an Associate Degree are available. The program provides students with the education and training to develop paraprofessional expertise and qualify for employment as entry-level addiction counselors. A required fieldwork component offers students invaluable hands-on experience working at a facility dedicated to the treatment of alcohol and drug addiction. Licensed clinicians seeking expertise in addictions can complete the new non-fieldwork-based Certificate of Achievement in Post-Professional Practice in Alcohol and Drug Counseling.

Child Development offers programs for career and transfer students. Certificates of Performance, Certificates of Achievement and Associate Degree programs are available to students interested in a range of child development opportunities and in meeting the requirements for the State of California Child Development Permits and the California State Department of Social Services, Title 22, Community Care Licensing.

The degree or certificate options are designed to support and encourage the professional development of students who aim for a career in Infant, Toddler, and/or Preschool Education; School Age Child Care; and/ or Early Childhood Administration and Supervision. Each certificate is aligned with the California Child Development Permit, which is issued through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
