The Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S) degree prepares students for specific career/technical skills. The requirements for each major in the Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S) are clearly shown in curriculum degree plans in the Dallas College catalog and are located under Career and Technical Education Programs.

The Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Technology degree program is designed to enable graduates to enter various fields of the industry after completing two years of study. Graduates may also elect to continue their education in the four-year Industrial Technology Program. Graduates of the two-year curriculum will be awarded the degree of Associate of Applied Science.

The Associate of Applied Science in Cyber Security degree is designed to prepare students for various entry-level technician opportunities in the information security sector with emphasis on cyber security in government, private sector, and law enforcement agencies. The program consists of four emphasis tracks leading to the Associate of Applied Science Degree. Students may specialize in Cyber Defense, Information Assurance, Network Security Administration, or System Security Administration.

The Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Technology degree program is designed to enable graduates to enter various fields of industry after completing two years of study. The Associate of Applied Science degree, Paralegal is approved by the American Bar Association and designed to train students for careers working as paralegals or legal assistants in law firms, governmental agencies, corporate legal departments, public service organizations, and other institutions. Paralegals work under the supervision of an attorney and are not licensed to practice law.

The Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts Program is designed to provide the necessary skills that prepare individuals for entry-level professions in culinary and hospitality services. Students will learn about safety and sanitation, recipe/menu planning, food processing, purchasing, and the art and science behind food preparation.

The Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Technology degree program is designed to enable graduates to enter various fields of the industry after completing two years of study. The Associate of Applied Science Program at Southwest University at El Paso is a 16-term program of study that prepares the student to provide patient centered care, to act as a safety advocate for the patient, to become a member of the nursing profession and healthcare team in various healthcare settings and builds confidence in the student as they embark on the journey of becoming a professional nurse.

The Nursing Associate Degree program prepares students to work as entry-level nurses in doctors’ offices, acute care and rehabilitation settings, long-term care facilities, ambulatory and community centers, medical centers, and hospitals, among others. The applied science portion of the program has two major components: the theory/didactic/lab component and the clinical externship component.

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Automotive Technology Program is designed to assist students in gaining the necessary skills and abilities to work in a mechanical environment. Students will learn the basic preventative maintenance procedures for gasoline engines, brake systems, transmission, electrical systems, transaxles, diagnostic equipment, steering, and suspension.

The Associate of Applied Science in Diesel Technology Program is designed to assist students in gaining the necessary skills and abilities to work in a diesel-mechanical environment. Students will learn the basic preventative maintenance procedures for medium and large engines, as well as diesel engine tractors and tractor-trailers.

The Associate of Applied Science in Health Studies is designed to offer students interested in working within the health care field an opportunity to attain the associate degree. Students acquiring this degree would be able to pursue advancement opportunities within varied health care settings. Examples of positions that would be applicable include: Billing Supervisor, Patient Service Representative, Medical Administrative Assistant, Medical Supply Manager and Allied Health Instructor.
