The Natural Sciences represent a branch of science with multiple paths that deals with the physical world, including physics, chemistry, geology, biology, and astronomy. The Associate in Science degree in Natural Sciences will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the Major course requirements and the General Education requirements.

The Mathematics and Natural Science Program provides a strong foundation for students who plan to attend a four-year institution and major in mathematics or one of the natural sciences.

The Associate of Science – Transfer Degree is designed for students who plan to transfer to specific science majors at four-year colleges or universities. Students pursuing this degree are required to select a field of specialization from an approved list and will be assigned a TCC advisor to understand specialization requirements. Atmospheric Science is a field of specialization at TCC. It offers an opportunity to study the natural forces that shape weather and climate. TCC offers courses that cover the first two years of a typical four-year atmospheric sciences program. Students will earn an Associate of Science – Track 2 (Transfer) degree to enter into a four-year college or university.

These courses emphasize the natural sciences, which examine the physical universe, its life forms, and its natural phenomena. Math courses emphasize mathematical, analytical, and reasoning skills beyond the level of intermediate algebra. Science courses emphasize an understanding of the process of science and the scientific method. Courses emphasize the use of mathematics and science as investigative tools, the role of mathematics and science as part of human civilization and society, and the inherent value of inductive and deductive reasoning as part of the human experience.

The Natural History major is designed to provide a broad survey of the diversity of Earth’s life forms and their evolutionary and environmental relationships. By carefully choosing electives, a student may emphasize specialized areas for transfer, including aquatic biology, zoology, botany, ecology, and environmental biology.

Mathematics is the language of the sciences and as such, these courses are needed as prerequisites to science courses and for student success in general. In the modern world, there are many fields that need specialists in mathematics. Careers in mathematics include scientists, researchers, programmers, and other specialists in information systems, mathematics teachers, actuaries, and insurance specialists, and people who can combine mathematical knowledge with a scientific, technological, or business background. The Associate in Science degree in Mathematics will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the Major course requirements and the General Education requirements.

The Human Biology Associate in Science degree provides a solid foundation in the biological sciences for students who are seeking entry to nursing and related health occupations. Completion of this degree meets all Biology and Chemistry prerequisites for admission to the LVN and LVN-RN programs and fulfills many of the lower-division requirements for a variety of baccalaureate degrees in Health Sciences. This degree is not intended for pre-medical, pre-dental, or pre-pharmacy students (see A.S. or AS-T in Biological Sciences instead).

Chemistry is the study of the composition, behavior, structure, and properties of matter. The study of chemistry provides insights that are central to biology, geology, materials science, medicine, environmental science, and many branches of engineering. The Associate of Science (Track 1) degree is directly transferable to most Washington baccalaureate institutions (four-year colleges and universities). Students who transfer will be granted junior standing upon transfer.

Geologic science is the science of the earth. It is an organized body of knowledge about the earth or planet on which we live - about the mountains, the plains, the oceans, and the atmosphere. It studies the effects of geologic hazards, such as earthquakes, landslides, floods, and volcanic eruptions. It also addresses the ways to conserve and protect the world's fragile geologic environment. Planetary science concerns itself with the study of the origin of galaxies and the universe, along with the laws which order these systems and bodies.

The Associate in Science in Mathematics for Transfer is designed to facilitate successful transfer to a baccalaureate mathematics program. This degree provides the lower division breadth and depth of calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra. Students who complete the requirements for this degree will be prepared to continue their studies in mathematics. Students in the STEM fields can complete a majority, if not all, of their lower division Math requirements by completing the Associate in Science in Mathematics for Transfer degree requirements.

Trevecca’s Associate of Science in mathematics is a two-year degree that gives you a solid foundation on which to build a career in mathematics or to continue your studies in a variety of fields. In the program, you’ll learn to understand and construct mathematical proofs, express mathematical ideas verbally and in writing, and use mathematical methods and appropriate technologies to solve significant problems.

The Associate of Science Degree for Transfer (AS-T) in Biology is designed for students who plan to transfer to CSU as biology majors. In this program, they gain exposure to the five main topics of biology (cell, molecular, organismal biology, evolution, and ecology).

The Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer (AS-T in Physics) is designed to provide a clear pathway to a CSU institution for students who plan to transfer and complete a CSU major or baccalaureate degree in Physics. The Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer (AS-T in Physics) provides a foundation in physics and mathematics for students planning to transfer into a baccalaureate program in physics or physics education. Successful completion of the program guarantees the student acceptance to a local California State University to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Physics or a related field.
